Top Speed?

Has anybody topped out thier vtec prelude before? i was just curious cause i hit 120 today. i wanted to keep going but a car was coming towards me and i thought it was a cop! So i stopped at 120. my lude has intake, exhaust, header, pulley kit. i'm curious on what the top speed of my lude would be! what's the fastest you've gone in your lude??
what mods. do u have?

i hit 140 in my 97 lude si auto

I've hit 136 on the interstate and was bumping my limiter.

140 in my 192 Si. I think what the speedometer says is what you can take it

in the middle of 135-140 in my 88 si on the highway last tuesday.

127 w/ my old H23 with 100k+ miles on....haven't had a chance to top out the h22 yet, but i have hit 130 w/o a problem and I coulda kept going...

driving fast is FUN...just be careful. I've known a few ppl that have died in car accidents. Its really sad to hear about them.

147 MPH est. I had the needle buried and still had more to go but I am running 9 lbs of boost and the limiter is gone thanks to my hondata so is my red line. I was racing my friend and she was at 125 and I past her like she was standing still, did I mention I love my lude! :evillol:

147 and you have a turbo? my 5th gen will do about that with no turbo

No, i was supporting your statement. The fact that he has a turbo attributes nothing to the fact that he hit 147mph, since stock ludes can do that anyway.

If he had gone faster, his turbo statement would then have done justice to that fact.

I've done 127 in my automatic 94 prelude si. I held off from faster because i hate having my car revving up so high for a long time... it's hell on her.

it cant be too bad for them considering my vtec doesnt even kick in till like 5200 rpms

in my 92 Sifive speedi hit 130 and still had alot more left but i agree with 94preludesi i dont like having my car reved that high for thatlong

just dont go over the redline and you will be fine, like i said if the Vtec doesnt even start until 5000+rpm and the redline is 7500 rpm or so, then im sure its safe to be inbetween those rpm's

5th generation 150 + going down the freeway along my friends prelude

yea going that fast is such a great rush... heres the story when i hit 140... i got on the highway going down the ramp at about 80 or 90, a crotch rocket was pulling up right next to me so we both hit it, i got to about 120 he hit prolly 150 and we both started slowing down, but he was quite a ways ahead of me, so after i while i figured if there were any cops he would have attracted their attention already, so i hit the gas again and just started cruising and eventually hit 140 and passed the same crotch rocket, he didn't like that so he gunned it again... oh i failed to mention he had a girl passanger on the back!! haha... he flew past me when i was at 140, he must have been going 170 or 180 mph, it was freekin insane!

I have 97 SH and have only had it up to about 136 so far... it's amazing that in a car 130+mph feels so fast cause I've had my 03' Kawasaki Ninja ZX-636R Sport bike to 168 and it didnt feel as fast as in a car... maybe I was just used to riding for so long and now I have a car again so I am not used to it... haha

base 97...topped out the needle at 150

well...here in florida...doing that on highways is very very stupid...

we got state troopers patrolling in supped up V8 camaros. you have to do it on back roads. on the way to the nearest race track (Moroso), theres a strip about 8 miles long with 3 lanes each way, with big medians on each side and inbetween. and then after the medians are woods. so basically, you can go as fast as you want cuz there is nowhere for cops to hide.

its funny...a lot of the time...people are racing on the way to the racetrack...

Although, the Highway is the last place i would try to top out.

Me, already being stupid enough to even top out a car ( :p ) - I told myself that if i'm gonna do something that dangerous, I'm going to do it in a secluded area where i won't put other people at risk.

well do you live in a major city or something, try going out at 1 am and theres close to no body on the highways, thats where all my buddies and I have topped our cars out, i mean if you can't handle your car at 130 on a fairly straight highway then maybe you should take some driving lessons

and get a radar/laser detector, theres always going to be cops, thats why you have to know the road you are on and know where the U Turns are, also if you watch a car speeding infront of you at say 90 mph or so, let them go a ways, and they don't get pulled over, the chances are there are no cops

YOUR TELLING ME THAT YOUR BACK ROADS HAVE 3 LANES EACH WAY, THATS QUITE THE BACK ROAD I WOULD SAY, I WISH BACK ROADS HERE HAD 6 LANES

my cousins 88 hit 126 seemed to struggle i dont know why...though we got his g/f sonata(98 maybe) automatic to 149 in about 2 min(after we hit 100 it took a long time to gain much speed) :loser:

lol, not all back roads have 3 lanes in each direction...just so happens that this one does, probably since its heavily used by racers trying to get to the track or some reason...i dunno!! call the Jupiter FL civil engineers and ask them, i don't live in the area, so thats the best i can come up with :D

LOL.. when I hit my top speed on the highway, it was at 2 in the morning, I was chasing down a drunk driver who almost hit me when he was passing me.. I thought about it for about 4 seconds and was like, "Hell no, I'm getting his tag #", so I dumped it down to 3rd, tached it, tached 4th and was bumping my limiter in 5th when I started to catch him but he whipped his car down an offramp.. I let it go at that and slowed back down to a nice 80 MPH and went on my way.


I never drive like that if there's other people around.. I'll play around light to light up to the speed limit from time to time (obviously, whoever's in front by that point is winning anyway), but I never whip through traffic or cut people off.

when you hit your top speed, what RPMs are you running at and how long do you stay there?

150 on my 99 vtec 5 speed

So 150 is the highest anyone ever gone? That is the max speed on the meter anyways. A supra has a top speed of 180. Thats 30 mph more then the 5th gen prelude. Wow. Kinda alot if you think bout it.

well...if you slap a turbocharger on a lude, and piggy-back a digital speedometer, i'm sure it'll be in the vicinity

is the top speed on the 5th gen lude limited by chip in some way or is it go as fast as you can without over revving?

about 150 when the tack hits redline

Mine isn't technically speed limited, but it's got a rev limiter.

yea, once the tach hits the redline, the engine won't produce much more power so thats more or less your limit. i've heard at the track from one or two other luders that you still produce some power into the redline, but once you pass that, your only damaging the motor.
