No spark!

My friend and I just replaced the head gasket on an 89 Ford Escort. We put it all back together and there is gas but no spark. So we tested the coil and it was bad, after replacing it there is still no spark. Then we replaced all the components in the distributor... still no spark. One day on the way home from work the car just died. Knowing the head gasket needed to be replaced we did that... but obviously something else is wrong. The battery is low so we were jumping it. The battery ground is also a little corroded but it was turning over fine. We put new plugs, checked and cleaned the cap and rotor...we also did not put the exhaust manifold back on yet because we wanted to see if it would work...Any other ideas?

Thanks

It seems that you have the same problem that I have... No spark at all.. But try checking out the ignition module! I'm going to do that as soon as I get home from work.. Ford had revealed that several models from 83-94 have faulty ignition, mostly because of the ignition module...

take the ignition module out and bring it to autozone they will test it free. I just did a taurus and had no spark out of the coil but got voltage so i just jumped the gun and got a coil put it in and found no spark still so then i took the module out and brought it to autozone they tested it and found it was no good. BTW the original coil was ok

Maybe try new spark plug wires and spark plugs?

Okay you really should change the ignition module, because as I explained before I had the same problem as you have, with the car stalling without warning... Yesterday I changed the module, and guess what: the car started without any problems. It's like a newborn child. The only thing I had to do after changing the module was adjusting the ignition timing but that was a piece of cake.

The reason I started suspecting that the module is faulty is this!http://money.cnn.com/2001/08/20/home_auto/q_consumerqa/
