hey guys I would like to start off by sayin cops suck :evillol: ...I got pulled over this morning for my window tint and no front plate (minnesota). The cop used his gay ass tint meter (11%) and scratched my damn window...I thanked the cop for scratching my window and for the fix it ticket he gave me. :screwy:

NOW FOR THE QUESTION...
My car needs tint, and I know there is a loop hole. I know that you can SOMEHOW get a medical reason saying you need tint on your car...I know MANY doctors that would make up some BS saying my eyes are very sensitive to the sun. But I need to know where to bring this note. Anyone ever done this?
(by the way minnesota state tint law is 50% in all windows for passenger cars)
Thanks guys...
:grinno: THE COPS WILL NOT WIN! :grinno:

"where to bring this note"

By that if you mean showing it somewhere then you don't need to, when a cop pulls you over you show him that. But you might have to take them off for this ticket, since I am guessing that you did not tell the cop about your "condition"

Yeah, im in minnesota also. Last yr i got pulled over for the no license plate crap. But i didnt have tint at the time. I've got 5% on my ram, and been pulled over with it but the cops have never said anything. Crazy ive had a Grand Am, Eclipse, Ranger, and Ram. The only one i havent gotten pulled over in is the Eclipse.....something isnt right there.

!) Its a huge conspiracy, Cops VS. DSMs!!
2) I just want to be 100% sure that I dont need a legal paper from the state or sumthing stating "my condition"...will a simple doctors note work...?

Why don't you just get some slightly lighter tint-- some that's actually legal?

just hurry and roll down the windows next time so they won't be able to see if ya have tint...had to do that on my old laser with 3%, then my bro got pulled over and they ripped it off right then and there...bastards!

Doctors note works here in MI, if you want to make sure go to any tint shop and ask them, they will know for sure

jdoug, I hope your kidding...legal tint here is 50% what is the point of that? 11% is MUCH cooler looking.
ashah...thanks looks like i will be getting a doctors note!

As for the no licence plate in front, do what I did, stick it in between the dash an wind shield, I live in Texas but we have that bs law too, as long as you have it visable, you can always use the excuse," I have to find a bracket for it". works for me. :2cents: lol ours is 20%

i tried the license plate between the dash and the window and went 3 wks before a state patrol officer pulled me over (Nebraska) and i got a fix it ticket, so i just got some zip ties and zip tied it to the front

I got pulled over for this back in December.. .Here in chicago...

make sure you know the law for your area, cause that usually doesnt work around here... Theyll just give you a fixit ticket for that too since youre already going to court for your windows anyway... Doesnt matter that you have it in the window.. its still "improper display" Cops arent dumb... Theyve pretty much heard every excuse.. theyre going to give you the ticket just to make sure you fix it... Fixit tickets dont cost anything as long as you get it fixed.. So its no trouble for them to just give you one.. and if you show the "evidence" its tossed out and not on your record... so if you get pulled over again.. it wont be there after a while..So you can just show your pics again.. unless you get pulled over by the same cop and hes onto your scam.. he'll rat you out in a sec.. Beyond me why you even need a front license plate.. not like theyre gonna have the time to scope out your license plate while going the opposite direction..

Dont know how the tint thing works in your area.. But in our court system.. When you go to court you can either get away with bringing the balled up tint that you pulled off.. or a picture of your car.. .Cause they dont have time to go out to the parking lot to view the car... judges hate wasting time... So you have 2 options... bring the balled up tint to court.. or find another dsm that is the same color as yours without tint.. and take the pictures to court.. .works better if its someone from your local DSM list.. That way you can take the picture of your license plate on the car with no tint... Make sure you inspect the ticket.. .in some cities.. like the one i was pulled over in.. They dont have the color of the car on the ticket, just the make and model.. tint job on mine was kinda old when i bought it so i pulled it off anyways.. and took pictures before my new one.... You dont want to show up and get caught... Thats what happened to another fellow DSMer when i went.. Cause youll get busted for purgury and false documentation.. and if theyre reall assholes.. youll be prosecuted to the fullest extent...

jdoug, I hope your kidding
No, no kidding. I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but the tint laws are there for a reason. If you were a cop walking up on a car you'd stopped in the middle of the night and the tint was so dark you couldn't see inside, you'd have no idea if they were getting a gun ready to blow your head off or what. And not all cops are dicks, although there are certainly some who are.

what about the cops in southern states, they can handle it...if your going to be a cop you know you will have to take risks...they need to grow some balls...I can see if it is some old rusted out piece of shit with 5% windows they might be scared...dude it is a sports car...tinted windows are sporty...

Well I agree the 50% part may be excessive, but I'm not a MN lawmaker. Sure, some laws are ridiculous, but it's still what they felt was appropriate, I guess. My dad was a highway patrolman for 26 years-- they take enough other serious risks already, believe me. Eliminating unnecessary ones wherever possible, IMO, is a good thing.

Just wondering but isn't any tint other then a factory done tint job illegal?

ashah000

Do you know how many drug dealers probably drive sports cars with tinted windows and would rather shoot a cop than go to prison? If you were a cop, would you want to see through the window or grow balls?

Sacrifice a LITTLE of the darkness of your tint for the cops' sake. They are the people who keep us safe and protect our rights, and having a little lighter tint is the least we can do for them.

That is why you roll down the windows :)

Just wondering but isn't any tint other then a factory done tint job illegal?

Nope, but all states have different laws.

And Ashah, I don't know what tells me this, but if I were a wanted drug dealer, I might not be cruising with the windows down; I might have tint for more than blocking the sun ;)!

No I get that, but I am just saying when you get pulled over pull them down so the cop can see you and he knows that you are not hiding anything. But I get what you are saying.

the cop that pulled me over knows me, he knows im not going to shoot at him. I drive around everywhere, talk to the cops none of em care...then 1 mile from my house I get screwed by a cop :screwy: . I know my windows are kinda dark I am willing to do 35% but 50%, screw that. :grinno: equal rights? I need tinted windows so that people cant watch me while im getting road head. :naughty:

personally i hate tint, and i'll tell you why...

when i'm flying down the road, breaking speed limits, rolling through stop signs, making illegal lefts, unsafe lane changes, racing from stoplights, on the freeway [highway], driving like my mechanic labels me [un-human]...

when i'm doing this all [on a very daily basis] i like 1 thing only, to be able to see as MUCH as possible, especialy at night. now with the spyder's top up it is pretty enclosed in there and tint is pretty unnessecary as it is [and with the top down and 100% unrestricted visibility i couldn't be happier :)], but on all of my other rides this has always been a fixture. my head is on a swivel when i drive, constantly looking for cops. all of my tickets have been either traps [need a fu#cking radar detector!!] or because of my lights [you can't really turn your lights off at night like rolling down your windows!]. but i do see most, if not all of the cops around me before they notice me, and adjust my driving accordingly.

and as far as road head, i like it with the top down :D!!! there is only 1 rule about that: make eye contact with as many females as you can!!! [i think that was in Maxim or PB years ago]

no see you gotta have tinted windows that way while your cruising down getting head and a someone rolls up next to u and starts checkin out your car you just roll down the window and reveal what else you got!

i would have to agree with joe mathews. i mean i know they bust us for having stuff that cause no damage to anyone but its all for a reason believe it or not.

I agree there is a reason for tint laws, but In Ohio, it's 50% as well. I have a friend who has 25% and you can see inside his car with 25% at night from a good distance away, though you can't distinguish a face. I believe that 50% is excessive, but dark enough that you can't see through it isn't safe. Besides, IMO, a window with too much tint on most cars isn't very appealing, it almost makes it as bad as the tint in the car section at wal-mart.

I agree with BoostedSpyder about the visibility factor in the spyder (mainly why i don't have tint, plus my windows are always down, so there's no true point to it), and the road-head.

there is nothin better than to get road head while racing in a dark ass car! no one can see you, your getting head at well over 100mph and you blow your load and win all at once! :P gotta love the feeling!!!

on the other hand cops have never fucked with me cause of my tint... they have mentioned it before but didnt pull me over just because of it! and the license plate... i havent had a front one in about 2 years on anything i own! never been bothered about that either... who knows maybe the cops like me (yea right!)
