I am just going to post my sketches in one thread.
I plan on doing a sketch every day for a year.
Anyone want to join.
I do not plan on going into the details of the car.
These will be more like rendering concept sketches.
My goal is to get good at form and accuracy of the lines themselves.
This will be my first one. The size is big just in case anyone wants to joing in.
More picts. of the diablo GTR can be found at
http://www.fast-autos.net just incase you need more detail.
Don't forget to check the wallpaper link
My GTR ref. will print out at 10in in width.
http://aa4jc.home.att.net/artwork/diab_gtr.jpg
I personally think the back rim is too big so I will decrease mine.

I'm in but I think we should try to remember the true nature of "sketch" It doesn't have to be finished. It doesn't have to even look like a car. It doesn't have to be one car on one sheet. Sometimes I'll scribble over a sheet front and back, overlapping cars with thick line sketches of nacho cheese.
It's the practice and conditioning. You learn a lot about yourself as well as the cars. It's cool on many levels.
I'm doin 20 minutes a night...maybe a little more.
p.s. Put dates on your sheets. Scan them and put them up here, but put your sketches away or don't look at those pages for like 3 months. You'll be shocked at your progress.

thats sound like a good idea. hey, you have to practice for sports, music, and everything else...what made think that drawing wouldn't require practice. im leavin' this friday for a huge vacation (lots of time on a plane). i will try to draw/sketch a lot then....maybe even a couple times a day.

Here we go, Sketch number #5.
360 to go. :)
I really like this one.
I call it "seven attack".
Reminds me of a Tie Fighter swooping in to kill an X-Wing.

I really like it! And I hate the RX-7! Only thing is that the body looks kinda squished height wise. MY friend is obsessed with 7s, so I have to study every detail and aspect of it or get my ass kicked. Lol...

But the car looks squashed in the photo, it is a wide body so they looked squashed, anyway. :) Perhaps I got a little too free with this sketch.
Have you guys seen the 04 RX-7 JGTC car? I will draw one tonight.
Darn thing looks wierd and hardly resemble a seven.
Plus I got a little secrete tool to show you guys, given to me by my grandmom in-law. I am luvin it too. Thing replaces my index card.

haha, it is kinda a fad, but this is more improving skills by not making things look perfect and practicing in a short amount of time
if that made sense

and the hotrod thing was more just drawing a certain type of car, i dont think sketching is too much of a fad
besides, sum people never used grids or anything in the first place so they were always doing sketches. the word "sketch" just came up a few days ago,

I love sketching with just a pen. I'm a scribbler and I end up pushing lines all over the place. I'm a little sloppy and loose, but it's almost like taking notes for me. I can look back through my scribbled mess and remember what I was thinking.
Pen is less forgiving, but very rewarding. IMHO

The JGTC 2003 Silvia.
One of the scariest looking rides around.
I added the headlight scheme and messed w/ the front mouth.
Could work more on the teeth. They actually point in towards the center of the car (horizontally) so they look odd from that perspective.

If I ever write a book I will for sure show a demo of this tool. I absolutely love it. Thx Grams :)
It works best w/ smaller ref. images. My cars about 13-14in. and my ref. images are about 5 in. You still have to know how to reproduce line angles and curves free hand. But this tool keeps you on track so I think it is a happy medium between freehand and simply using grids. I think sketching w/ this is helping me see and reproduce lines better.

I have tryed it with pen and i honestly do not like it at all. I think that using a pencil w/o an eraser is easier. But I think that I will try out pen again. Last time i tried it I got all messed up. But I am confident I can succeed. Know back to asaenz...
i hated the pen, too, and avoided it for years.
it wasn't until i was about 31 yrs old that i began using it regularly.
