I have a 1998 aurora, and it is overheating when i am driving around , but it won't over heat if it is in park, it will also cool itself down when it is in park, i recently had the thermostat replaced and last week the low coolant light came up so i added fluid like it said and now it over heats does anyone have any ideas on what it could be, thanks!

OK, how hot is it getting?
Have you removed any of the underbody plastic deflectors? That will affect engine temps under driving conditions.

O.O wow...ok that shouldn't be happening. If anything, the car goes into "limp home" mode because the cooling system is damn near failing.
Are you showing any SES lights above the dash on the "money bar". Might consider a faulty coolant temp sensor. Get a scan done.

Does the Engine seem to have the amout of Power it should? You may possibly look at plugged Catalytic Convertors. How many miles or KM on it? If your looking at Cats in is going to be expensive!

Its also odd that this started happening 'after' you had the thermostat changed. Whoever changed it may have done something wrong. Don't drive it if its overheating. Unless you want a warped head or something. These cars run on the ragged edge of to hot anyway.

And make sure its a 180T-stat. Thats what the car came stock with, so switching to the more typical 195T-stat may cause issues.

I believe they have to be installed a certain way. The arch over the top of the t-stat has to line up with the housing screws in most cases. Not sure.

it was a blown head gasget, and they said it would cost about 2,000 to fix, i don't have that kind of money, plus i still owe on a loan on the car does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Just changed the water pump, drive pulley, thermostat and tensioner in mine. The water pump is not fun on these, with or without the socket! I would change the head gasket yourself. Won't be an easy task though. Depends on how intimate you want to get with your car!

Who is "they"? I would consider getting a second and maybe even third opinion. If it does turn out to be a blown head gasket I would also recommend doing it yourself if you have a decent car knowledge.
