Airbag Light Always On

The airbag light on my '95 Grand Am is always on. I bought the car recently and it came that way. Before getting a diagnostic test I wanted to reset it to make sure it wasn't set off by an external cause like low voltage due to a slipping belt.
Can the light be reset to off? And, are there ways of reading/getting diagnostic codes without plugging a 'puter into the harness?
Thanks for any help.

Disconnecting you battery for like 5 min will erase all codes, and why not just go to autozone or someplace similar and get the codes read for free. Why bother trying to get them yourself when they do it for free?

I had the same problem with my light...If its not the air bag or anything here is something u should try: Turn the key to ON, in the fuse box on the drivers side there should be a reset button, press and hold that button until u hear the chimes then release and push it again but dont hold it...Then turn the key off, then start your car...It should be off, it worked for me.

Are you sure there's a reset button on the '95 Grand Am SE? Can't seem to locate it.

if there is a short or bad ground in the air bag system you will never be able to clear the code for more than a day but as long as the light is on you do not have an air bag system be careful.
