Ive got 2 problems with my 95 GT and Im thinking they might be related.
(By the way Im using regular not premium gas)
Firstly, the engine whines (not too loud) when Im accelerating hard.
Secondly, the check engine light comes on every once in a while, for no apparent reason.
thanks

no clue as to why the lights coming on, but as far as it goes for the whine, you might want to check for an intake or an exhaust leak

As far as the cigarette lighter goes, I would check the fuse first, which is too the left of the clutch and theres a digram on it for the Fuses. If that doesn't work, i'd wire the lighter directly to the fusebox.
I don't have a wiring digram for it, but you should look around for one, and maybe a Haynes manual while your at it.

hmm, no, i disagree. the water pump on my 90' probe is on its way out right now, and i have no whine whatsoever. check out ya cig lighter by removing the ashtray, and pulling out your ashtray assembly, you need to remove the shifter boot and knob, per instruction haynes. Two clips on the cigarette lighter, neg, and positive, check those to be sure there tight, same with fuses, if not, wire it too the fuse box, slip your new wire under the dash panel if you need, did that with mine.

1. Your engine whine could actually be the gears you are hearing. Does your car have a 5 speed or auto tranny? Does it get louder in higher gears? The fuel grade you are using should make no difference in this case.
2. You should go to Autozone and have them pull your codes for you. If you don't have one near you then you can do this yourself by jumping the TEN and GND pins in the diagnostic box. Turn the key to the acc position and look at your CEL (check engine light). Count the flashes as they appear. A long flash is considered 10 and a short one is considered a 1. For example, if the light flashes like this "--- --- --- - - - -", then it is a code 34 which is the IAC (Idle Air Control) solenoid .
