Wheres My 5th!!!

today i was running a friends probe GT and murano i accidently went to 5th from 2nd and now 5th dissapear doesnt even feel like its there. Going to 5th is like going to neutral now.

i could only think one thing new tranny

turns out no reverse either all the other gears work perfect tho. its like they dont even exist no clicking to show me its in 5th or reverse just goes to the position freely.

lol that sucks ass you probably welded the 2 gears together

you probably dropped a shift rail. 5th and reverse are usually on the same rail. It wouldnt cost much to fix if you new what you were doing. Ive never heard of that before but im sure that is what it is.

haha, some kid at my school did that to his old ass eclipse...kid is a retard drives a riced out civic now that blows out so much oil that the whole back of the car is black instead of red...anyway, learn how to drive before you go racing

something happened to me like that once jus that the gear won't go in at all.. it felt like something was blockin it from goin into 5th but i kept drivin it and it jus started back workin but then the reverse stop goin in and i did the same thing jus kept drivin it. which was kinda hard cuz i couldn't park in spots where i can't drive fwd lol and if i was i had to park on a slope so i can jus roll out the spot.. but it started back workin but i never found out wut was wrong with it still works now

u lost the gear only thing to do is tranny rebuild or just get a new tranny no other way to fix it sorrie man :-/ becareful how u drive but u know shit happends

you probably broke the shift fork. Some dumbass just did that in his car at our shop lol. It was a cheapy aluminum one, got stuck and was trying to rock it from 1st and reverse, now its f'd up and won't go into 1st or Reverse lol, its like the gears aren't even there because the shift fork doesn't even work and move the gears inside the case.

the thing is5th and reverse are the probe all the other gears work perfect no noise etc.

what year probe gt? was it turbo? sorrie to hear about the tranny..

From what you're saying, I'd be 99% sure on it.



So you can understand what I'm talking about:
For every two gears opposite of each other on the "H", like 1st and 2nd, theres this rail that shifts the gears, which is why you have to move it over (to get a different rail). Then you move it over to the 3 -4 rail, and so on. on a 5 speed (except VWs) 5th and Reverse are on the same rail. If you can accually put the shifter where it WOULD be in gear and its not, and you feel NO clicking, thats what it would HAVE to be.


Don't listen to this bullshit about "yo yo my boy wuz street racin his civic EX, n yo, he hit da NOS, and his tranny BLEW, thats probly wut u need, a nu tranny!" bullshit. anyone can say "oh you blew the gear". ummm.. transmissions are a bit hard to work on if you never had before, so if you've got any skilled friends have them help you, or take it to a mechanic, cause they'll have all the special tools you'd need and the lift.
