unusual problem

I have a '86 ford ranger 6 speed. Here's my problem. one i know i'm driving a ford truck, an old one at that, but i'm 16 and it gets me from point a to point b.

second, when my clutch is in, the truck dies. It just stops. Like i'll be stopping at a stop sign, and it will just die. and i'll have to start it back up again and keep going. usually, the truck does this when it has just started. but once it's died once on a trip it wont do it again. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? Any ideas would be great

you can proably just turn up the idle or if you feel like it you can just keep the revs up with the throttle when you stop. and if its not jsut a simple stalling problen then i dont know.

oh yeah and maybe you should jsut get a tune up wiht new filters, plugs, oil, maybe use some fuel additive to clean everything up in the injectors, lines, pump, filter, plugs.

how would i go about in raising the idle? since it's an '86, that's the first year that ford came out with EFI, and i can't raise it by messing with the carb. and the truck has had a tune up recently.

Clean out the Idle Air Control valve. You have to remove it and use carb cleaner and a tooth brush. Look for a Chiltons manual for the correct procedure and location of the part.

1. Try starting a new thread in this forum.
2. Tell us more details on the parts you have already changed.
