It's a stunning bit of work, and looks nothing short of awesome. I noticed you managed to make a decent mask for the windscreen. How did you do it? I've got this kt, and the F40 to build as I want to have a show with the F40, F50 and Enzo all in red, but the F40 and F50 have no window masks. Just wondering if there was a good trick, or is it a case of just "do" the best with masking tape, pencil line and a sharpe knife?
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Thanks, everyone!
If I had done my checkride today instead of yesterday, I'd have been there to watch the idiots who busted the DC airspace today land....
OK, 'nuff about flying, back to the F50.
mickbench- Nope, no trick, just alot of careful, tedious masking. The F40 windshield certainly won't be hard (the frame is on the body itself, not the windshield), but the side windows may be nasty. But as the F40 may very well be my next build, you'll get a front row seat as I do mine....
klutz_100- Yeah, I find I get a much better view of the world that way.
Added some wiring to the top of the rear wheel arches. Time now for the rest of the bodywork.

Seems almost a shame to cover it up with bodywork.

Great detail. I love all the wiring done and you've tackled the rear mesh problem very well. Here do you get your references from? I can't seem to get which wires goes to where (except for the distributors).

Hey, check the website of 360spider called italianhorses.net. He has some really neat tutorials, one about window masking!

Finished (finally)! Only took me about a year. The end results:
Barchetta, of course! (Don't want to cover up anyting I don't have to!)
http://img102.echo.cx/img102/7140/11010518ky.jpg
To keep the engine lid lifted, I made some supports. Just bent brass rod with some styrene bits added, painted black. They get wedged in just ahead of the hold down latches.
http://img102.echo.cx/img102/2922/11010526tq.jpg

http://img102.echo.cx/img102/3527/11010502sl.jpg
The seatbelts are just Tamiya tape cut into 2mm strips, painted black, with hardware made from strip styrene.
Soon as the weather cooperates, I'll get sone outdoors shots. Then, it's on to the next one!
Thanks for all your comments, everyone. I really enjoyed building and posting this one. I shudder to think how long it would have taken me to finish without you guys to spur me on! Meanwhile, I have a waist high pile of 1/24 Ferrari's (and BMW's and Porsche's!) to get through. Let's see, what's next....

I don't know that resurecting an old post is really a problem. I'm still active here, and it doesn't bother me if my posts are occasionally brought back. If you can't revisit old stuff, we kind of lose some of the advantages of having an active forum.

If I had one to do, I really wouldn't do it completely clear. There's plenty of stuff on this kit that shouldn't be seen through a clear body- like the back side of the door panels. No matter what you do with them, they're going to look like injection molded styrene- and even on the real car, the insides of the doors really wouldn't be worth looking at.
I think the best way to aproach a clear view build is to do it only part clear, and part body color- like a cutaway. What would be really cool for a car like the F50 would be to do alot of the bodywork in CF- apply it backwards, on the inside of the clear body parts. This way you get to control what's visible and what isn't, and the rest of the body looks cool, too. You could even paint body color over most of the body, and leave a half inch or so of CF decals visible under all the paint edges- it would look spectacular! Leave the engine bay, the oil coolers, front suspension, and radiator visible, and the rest of the body bodycolored, with CF edges.
That's how I'd do it....

MPWR, it motivates me to know that you are suggesting exactly what I am planning to do. I am currently working on a clear version of the F50, for which your build up inspires me everytime I take it out to be worked on.
I was planning to do exactly what you suggested, painting part of the shell in body color and leaving on the top parts of the car clear to expose the (hopefully successful) detailed engine and front compartment.
I can only hope the end result will be half as spectacular as yours!
