93 Clutch/start prob

My friends got a 93 sx and im sick of waiting around after school to see if his car will ever start....he says that the clutch sensor thing is not sensing when the clutch is depressed, thus not letting him start the car. the only way he can get it to work is to sit there for like 30 min pressing the clutch over and over, while trying to start the car. he has done something to the clutch wires that was supposed to fix the problem but it didnt work, and im not sure what he actually did. also the little foam peice that pushes in the button for the clutch is loose and falls out alot, main cause of the problem i suspect...
