Cowl Induction

Hi Guys,
I've just bought myself an 85 Iroc and would like to add a cowl hood to it, kinda like the sig piccy of 92rs25th. I love the look of them but would also want to have it as a working induction system.
I know the principals behind how Cowl hoods work, but I don't know too much about making one work in practice. Also what mods would I need to do to the current induction system - which is stock, to make use of a cowl system.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks guys

i'd have to see pics to know what your working with. but you'll have to make an air box with a filter that routes air from the hood to the carb

My Camaro doesn't have a carb, it's the TPI engine, so it's got the dual snorkel that grabs the air from behind the nosecone.
I'm guessing I'd probably have to alter the current induction system quite a bit to get a working cowl as the air is grabbed from the front of the engine bay and not the rear like a carb setup.
If anyone has managed a this with the TPI engine I'd love to see pictures and get some info.

Ive yet to see this done with a TPI system. Youd have to somehow turn the induction routing around to pickup air behind the throttle body. I havent seen a hood with enough clearance at the front to be able to pull this off yet.
There is a company that makes a set of boxes that go in the front end under the location of the stock filters. They open the airflow up quite a bit because you remove the stock restrictive system.
Theres also some ram air boxes for TPI systems that were on ebay. Ill try to find the link to the website so you can see exactly what im talking about.

Thanks for the help guys, it's given me something to go on, I'm not sure I'd put in a Ram air system but I could well just buy a hood and just have it for show, I love the look of cowls.

you know, I was looking at those ram air boxes myself, and when I looked in the area they go, it looks as if they'll block the airflow to the radiator, which wouldn't be a good thing, I could be wrong. There is, however, this item here http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=837 which I think would be the better route to go.

The rad gets airflow from underneath the car thats why theres that plastic airdam and sticks straight down underneath the car. Those boxes wont make your car run any hotter.

I realize that as well, but the boxes are still blocking that airflow from underneath.

What are you talking about those boxes go behind the area where the fog lights sit. The rad picks up air for cooling from the very bottom of the car.

Its a cold air induction system its not made for ram air. If you want ram air go buy a ram air hood.

Cowl induction looks nice..mm..I'd sell mine off for like 300. I think I want to go with the whole ram air thing.

it does not matter what hood you have Ram Air does not work unless it you are going so damn fast it is not even funny. I have the numbers to prove it and I have posted them up a number of times. do a search and you will find them

I've gotten work that a lot of ram air systems are no better tha a stupid intake tube and air filter on the end. My friend has a stupid ram air trans am and he said it's not kicking out the power it's suppose to and it's not getting proper fuel/air ratio mixture eben though it's ram air.which it wasn't originally. Had some stupid tube and a small square filter box. I dunno...Is ram air worth the investment ?

Ram air hoods look cool and you get get them with an filter setup so it sucks in the cold air entering the hood. Still just a cold air intake but works just as good.
