I have a 1995 astrovan which has an aftermarket remote start installed. This unit works off the factory installed Remote keyless entry module. The problem here is that the factory unit is designed to work from only 30 feet away from the van. I would like to install a range extending antenna to this unit but I need to know what frequency these factory units work with so that I buy the correct antenna.

You can't do it. The OEM keyless unit doesn't even have a real antenna as it is. When I sell remote starts, I make sure people understand the limitations of using OEM remotes to activate the system. Probably the easiest thing really would be to install a RS with it's own extended reange antenna or atleast a decent aftermarket keyless entry unit.

Thanks for the info. I opened the RKE module and found a small bare wire soldered to the printed circuit board. I am going to assume that this is the antenna? I wonder if this could be removed and an aftermarket antenna tuned to recieve the correct frequency installed on the windshield would improve the range??? Any advice is greatly appreciated
