need help installing 6x9s in the rear

ok...i'm not much of a car person. so i'm asking for some help. i've tried looking for diagrams online, websites that might help me, & asking people. well while i was looking for a website i came across this one. it's already helped me out w/ some other questions i've had so i thought i might ask one of my own.

as the title states i'm trying to install new pioneer 6x9s to replace the old ones (oh btw i have a 01 sunfire se sedan). so i get back there all ready to install thinking it was gonna be easy just a screw here & there, remove & replace, & voila done. but to my surprise the answer was no. :banghead: so how do i do it? i don't want to pay someone else to do it, i'd like to do this one myself. to me it looks like i'd have to take the whole trunk out to do it, or rip up the carpet on the top, but i don't want to ruin everything. i've also noticed these little plastic pin thingies. how are you supposed to remove those w/o breaking them, cuz i've tried & ended up breaking one. well if someone could help out this newbie i'd appreciate it a lot. oh if you could maybe use laymans<sp> or explain what you mean a little better than normal...even a diagram would help? i know i'm asking a lot, but i'm sure there's been harder questions. well i'll shut up now. thanks in advance!!

I have a 99 sunfire gt. I have the same problem. I've been looking around the trunk for a couple hours and i think the way to do it is, you gotta remove the entire back seat. the plastic thinggys you were talking about, there are two holding up two big plastic pieces, gotta take those out too and then remove the plastic side cover over top of them. that's right the big one that covers the entire side of the back. then after you got those removed take the carpet cover over the speakers off and last but not least disconnect the speaker clip from under neath the trunk and take the speakers out. Seems like alot i know. I spent countless hours trying to find an easy way to do it on the net but i've had no success. If anyone else know's an easier way to do this please post it.

Hey, I just posted the last reply. After a bid of searching around i found someone who actually changed the speakers. He posted this:
The rear is even easier. Pull down your rear seat. Remove the 2 large
plastic panels on each side. They have one very large "fuzz" button a
piece. Just pull on them firmly to remove. Then all you do is pull on
the carpeted piece, it should slide right out with a little coaxing. You dont have to remove the seat though.

hope it helps.

I just tried the last response i put in. It does work. You have to work with the rear carpet on top of the speakers a bit. just remember to take the plastic rings around the seat belt loops off. I forgot to take one off and accideantly broke mine. They are very fragile. Other than that is a breeze.
