More with that stupid Buick stuff again.

Here's my stage 3.

http://www.58vw.com/af/buick2.jpg

I'm going to tranfer it to regular paper again then transfer that to my inking paper. There's still some issues but I should get most of it worked out in the next 2 steps.

I'm still trying to keep it stylized and just have fun. You can see how I tried to carry the simplification through the entire car.

It's still going ok so I'm still.....ok.

You sould try to shade with a pencil...

lemorris

It's for a shirt so it will be pen. I need the solid black for my fim positive, and the separations.

I'll put up some pencil work another time though.

It kind of looks like a color by numbers picture, you know what im talking about? Just cuz its kind of simplified.

Thats one cool outline...

Lee, how about doing a supercar, I don't think you've shown us one of them before. It might be something different for you to do.

Issues? I don't see them, but then again I don't do detailed outlines, I concentrate on the shading. :)

Hope you get the "issues" sorted out anyhow.

The holiday slowed me down but I finally did another transfer and fixed stuff here and there, and then transferred it to the inking paper. (Borden & Riley Paper for Pens).

http://www.58vw.com/af/buick3.jpg

Now I'm going to tape it to the back of some illustration board and then tape that to my drawing board, and start inking. I'll post wherever I am later and we should start to see what this thing is gonna look like.

OK I'm finishing this thing today...I hope.

I had to put it away for a while. (work and visitors).

Anyway it smells like inked Buick.

http://www.58vw.com/af/buick4.jpg

The inking won't contain all the tones. I'll do a lot of it on the computer. I'll be doing the grill in photoshop as well. I have some corrections to make, but for the most part it's ok. I'll ink through the whole thing then make corrections and add tones in photoshop.

Movin right along.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. It is appreciated.

I'm pretty much done hand inking now. Here's the latest:

http://www.58vw.com/af/buick6.jpg

Im not inking the sides, but I did darken them so you could see them.

I'm going to duplicate the layer and use one for selections and the other as a trap.

I will use the pencil shapes as guides and create tones on the computer. For the most part they will be simple gradients that I turn into half-tones. I'll get on that grill too.

It's about to happen AL, watch close.

I'll fix all the glitches now too, and then start basically coloring with gradients to get some nice tonal effects. This is just a 1 color shirt so I don't have to index my colors or nothin like that. I do have 2 more cars to draw though.

lemorris, thats stunning
ahh, your name is confusing, i always spell it wrong and find myself scrolling down to see the correct spelling. its always either lemmorris or lemmoris. mostly the second one

anyways, looks like you didn't finish it today as you planned
unless of course, you only wanted to get the inking done

eh, whatever

is today over?

SeCrEtMoDdEr
06-13-2004, 11:14 PM
well, that depends on where you live, right now, you have 47 minutes to get done...but if we were in Poland, you would be 7h13 min behind, or is it 5h13 min

meh, whatever

GET DONE

i wanna seee....:uhoh:....quick

lemorris
06-13-2004, 11:28 PM
LOLOL well then for the record I'm in Poland next Thursday.

I definitely will not finish tonight. There's still a lot of tonal stuff to go, and I was going to put up some detailed info, and that will take a while.

Anyway here's the latest. This version still has the pencil layer active. When I finishI'll turn it off so everything will clean up.

http://www.58vw.com/af/buick7.jpg

I've just been dropping in tones so I could get a feel for what might be. Nothing is actually set yet. I'll go over all areas with a fine tooth comb, and lock it down next. Right now I'm just trying to see what I'm dealing with. I haven't converted anything to halftones and probably won't until tomorrow.

I did knock out the grill though. (This is photoshop) I blew up my reference and made a small selection of it's grill pattern. Then I made it grayscale, and did a brightness contrast and levels so it was almost solid black and white. Then I selected all (ctrl-a), and clicked edit-define pattern. I tried to make it as seamless as possible, but I wasn't too worried because I knew I'd be dropping another gradient over the whole area.

I then selected the grill area and made a new layer. Then I did an edit-fill-pattern, and selected the pattern I just created. It made an almost seamless pattern just like the original in my grill area.

http://www.58vw.com/af/buick8.jpg

Once this gets converted for print it will look great. I also know my client will be happy and it is an area I can point out as my attention to detail.

Now...having been defeated I must sulk back to my cave and cry a thousand cries. Perhaps the new day will show me favor....perhaps.

lemorris

I haven't put it in yet.

I'll proabably just drop an indicator on the front side. It won't need to be fully drawn in. Having lines that don't always connect help lend to the stylized approach.

Anyone here ever hear of Patrick Nagel? He used to be big in the late 80's with his girl prints. I never liked his work really, but I liked how he would take a shape and allow it to carry a lot of visual wieght. The eye is fantastic at putting things together. Sometimes it's fun to do a piece that gives the viewer that opportunity.

I had thought about posting that here.

The challenge:

Draw a recognizable car (make and model) using no more than 5 shapes.

Thanks for the pick me up fellas...I'm draggin wagon on this one.
