Help on changing instument cluster bulbs

So far I've been unsuccessful with gaining access to the bulbs on the instument cluster on my 97' impreza. I've been told that I need to unscrew the four bulbs on the bezel and take it out, i've done that, but there are wires on each side that i cannot seem to pull out, so the bezel just kinda hangs loose. I was also told to take out the cable behind the instument cluster that holds it in by reaching up under the dash and pulling it out. I've attempted to do that also, but not matter how hard i pull, it doesn't come out and I'm pretty sure i'm pulling the right cable. Has anybody ever done this before on a similar vehicle? I could use some guidance :(
