Hi guys... I had a ride in my frd's EG6 (b16a2) yesterday. i saw my frd driving up to 7500 rpm in 2nd gear and kept on doing that with 3rd gear, but i didn't actually feel anything difference...
the only thing that i noticed was the sound of the engine changed at abt 5800 rpm, but i really didn't feel any specail or being pulled..
so, can anyone tell me how does it actually feel like when the VTEC kicks in??

I think in a b16 the feeling is minimal, in a b18 you will feel a better kick. An h22 I bet would feel sweet.
I know I feel a pretty decent kick in my b17.

Well with my car sound goes from a wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh to a wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA type sound and I dont feel it much on the street but if im at the track and i have my headlight out for better intake I feel it alot more...one time my head actually drifted back because of VTEC engaging....I was proud of my car when that happened....

I ran mine like that for awhile... it ran like shit and had no pull at all. once I got a rel exhaust hooked up again it felt like it had more pull. all it did for me was let me hear the engagement better, but like I said I felt it more with a full exhaust.

This might sound weird, but i think you can feel it more if you're the one driving the car, not just sitting there as the passenger.
Anyone else agree with me on this?

does anyone elses car try and turn the steering wheel hard right whenever it kicks in or you accelerate hard? I know my alignment is fine, and everything drives straight as an arrow but as soon as I accelerate hard or vtec kicks in my steering wheel trys to whip around and the whole car jerks to the right a little? anyone else have this?
and yeah I think it may be a driver thing... although my one friend says he loves driving in my car with me cuz he likes feeling that "kick" so who knows.

torque-steer? :dunno:
yeah i've been thinking that but have never actually read a definition on what torque steer actually does so i dunno. besides how can 117ft/lbs create torque steer? haha oh well.

In my H22A4 you can really feel when vtec kicks in. It seems in first and second gears the difference is small, but in thrid and fourth it seems to really do the most. Plus with an aftermarket exhaust your car sounds so badass in vtec.

well i guess you can take into consideration that your car is somewhat light for the torque it puts down?
All I can say is that my car torque steers like a motherf*cker. :smokin:
Although in some cases that might not be a good thing :uhoh:
I'd also have to agree with the above, h22's vtec kicks a bit harder than the b16's.

Well I'm gonna go ahead and duck the flames, but I have a 99' Civic Ex with the d16y8 with i/h/e,cam gear advanced 5 degrees, high flow cat, msd wires, and iridium plugs and I almost always feel a difference in the pull when I reach vtec in my car. Especially in 1st through 3rd gear, it feels like the car is kinda "floating" like Crippy said and my head slightly is pulled back towards the seat (a little bit more than slightly during really hard acceleration). I dunno if this is because I've never really drove a powerful car before, but I have a friend that owns a 96 Cobra with around 400whp while running a NOS setup and he even said that when he drives my car he could feel a difference in pull when vtec kicks in.

You want to have a vtec experience, try a integra type R, with a cold air intake, stock exhaust and spoon header. The volume gets turned up real quick on this set-up when the vtec ingauges, plus you will feel it pull.

If the motor isn't modded, and the vtec is still set in the stock rpm, it should be a smooth change over, a little pick up, and a slightly altered sound.
If you have modded the motor and lowered teh vtec, it will be a very pronounced bwaaaaaBWAHAAAAAAAAA.

I can feel a nice "kick" in 1st and 2nd gear, but I have a b16b. I took a ride in my sargeant's 99 Si and it wasn't really noticeable at all, just noise. I also drove my uncle's S2000 the other day (stock) and it wasn't much of a kick either, just slightly changed tone and kept revving forever.. :)

<---agrees with burntnoodles....i was 17 when i got my R and i didnt even know how to drive a stick...that vtec feeling was great...especially in 2nd and third gear when the CAI would make the HHHOOUUULLL from like 4400 to 5700 rpm...fell in love. The vtec engagement in my gsr is out of this world.... almost like a rush in 1,2 & 3 rd gears....lol i only get about 90 miles to a tank because of vtec

"Why would you feel it more if you take out the cat and exhaust? Would that harm the vehicle?"
You have obviously never driven a VTEC w/o an exhaust on it. I broke my current motor in that way...non-turbo and no exhaust (had the 1 off my R but didnt feel like hooking it up)..W/ an open header the VTEC crossover is crazzzy loud. The sound would put an bike to shame....especially at 8000 rpm

...My VTEC is really loud too I only really noticed it least night when I was driving with my boy with the prelude (h22) and I was overtaking him and my VTEC kicked in a few seconds after his...mine was REALLY loud compared to his...
