Hi there. My parents are having a problem with their van. Its a 96 plymouth voyager 3.0 v6. They went to the mall today and parked the car. Came out to drive home and realized that when they put the gear on R and give gas a bit, the car wouldnt do anything. Placed the gear into N and the car moved forward. Then put it on P and the car was reversing.
They have no idea what caused this. To me it seems like the gear handle needs to be adjusted. No strange noise or vibration is coming from tranny or engine when you shift... just the letters seem to be mixed up. And to put the car on Park, you move the handle all the way up as you would normally but it doesnt show it on P, the little bar that moves just goes past P.
Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

This not a big deal it is like you said the shift indicator is out of wack and needs to be adjusted over to match the gear it is in. I have done this on my 88' but not my 96' so I am not sure how to do on that year. On the 88" it was connected with a piece of wire.
