Auto Shift Knob ??

Aight i bought a aftermarket automatic shift knob w/ OD for my 2000 Max about a year ago and now came around to puttin it on. Well the OEM is like impossible to take off, feels like its going to break if i try any harder. Can anyone help tell me how to take off the orignal Shift knob properly, seems like the rest would be easy , just cant get the thing off.

in most auto shift knobs there is a lil allen-key screw in there...but in my best friend's SL2, we just had to pull hard on it n it popped off...no screw...
