VG30DE swap to VG30DETT

Hi - looking for some specific info on this swap. I have a 1991 Auto 2+2 N/A, i'm the original owner and the car in in great shape. The motor has about 150k miles on it and is ready for an overhaul. I own a shop here in Florida and occasionally I import used JDM motors. On the last shipment I received a very clean VG30DETT/Auto Tranny/ECU/Harness/AFM & Igniter. What I wanted to know is if that is a direct swap into the N/A 2+2 body, I read some of the threads and I know most folks have said getting the front clip is better, but unfortunately all I have are the parts I listed above. We do alot of swaps, turbo upgrades and so on and I have the ability to fabricate if I need to, I was thinking to make the intercooler plumbing simpler, I would just go ahead and add a front mount intercooler to make things easier. What about the N/A 2+2 Auto drive-shaft and rear-end? will they have to be swapped out as well?

Wow and I though was going to be another idiot kid who blew all his money on an NA when he really wanted a turbo and now wants to swap, costing more than the turbo would have.
Anyway...
The swap is fairly straight forward, as the engines are the same block, heads, intake (in size, turbo has some more holes I believe) etc...all the standard stuff that is different between a turbo or a NA model car. If you own a shop that does swaps you are surely familar with this type of stuff. If you have all of the parts then the hardest part is the labor, as the 300ZX is not the easiest car to work on. But since you are swapping VG for VG it is not too difficult if you know what you are doing and have the right tools and information.
As for the intercooler, I'm not a big fan of front mounts on Z32s as the engine doesn't really need anymore heat being dumped infront of it (thus the two smaller front mounts off to either side). But since you are doing a swap, it would probably be easier to add a large front mount. I'm not sure if the NA models had the same engine bay setup with the room and holes in the right places to use the stock TT Z intercooler plumbing.
The drive shaft I am unsure of but I can check my FSM (truly a god send) or online. The rear end is essentially the same as the TT one, just with lower gearing (4.083 instead of the TT 3.692, better acceleration but the higher TT gears will put you in 190 mph area at redline and that is the land of Italian exotics :D).
With a shop at your disposal, it shouldn't be too hard.

To be honest I did read up on alot of those threads you all mentioned, but it's very long and drawn out then it becomes an overload of information. In this thread you all kept it quite simple, I ask a question and got a simple yes/no answer. I just got done installing a SR20DET in a FWD '93 NX 2000 and I have to complete a RWD SR20DET in a 240 before I can jump on my little Z project. Thanks for all of your help. Trini!

That is one of the best swaps on the market, it's fairly reasonable price wise considering the potential of the SR20DET and you talk about a sleeper, that's the best part. The customer loves it...he almost convinced me to build one of those for myself. I mainly work on Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo and MK4 Supras, only recently i've started working on Nissan and Honda swaps.

Wrong on JUST one thing... The heads are actually a 1/4 inch thicker on VG30DETT's.
I dont think the swap is easy at all... Ive spoken with people who have done it, and its not what you would call easy.
For the driveshaft, your looking at about $550 for a custom made on. Or, get up with one of your suppliers in Japan, and get them to rip a drive shaft off an authentic TT 2+2.
Twin Turbo 2+2 will be rare, and will have the looks, to go with the power. (I think 2+2's body look better... More stretched out in essence)
So more power to you if you can get it done.
Im starting up my own engine importation business: (A few of my friends are into importing, and I got lucky and met a good supplier in Okinawa.) I will be importing mostly RB's, SR's, CA's, and VG's, into the states. Full clips. I can provide the VG Twin Turbo front clip for the following prices and options:
Twin Turbo 5Speed : $3,000
Twin Turbo Automatic : $2,500
Clip will include the VG30DETT, transmission you desire, EFI wiring, ECU/M, mounts brackets, dash board and everything else that comes on the front of the car. Most clips come with aftermarket accessories, or mods.
