The only good thing I can say is I'm glad it's not my car. Bad thing is it's my wife's car. 1999 Intrepid, POS motor (I won't say 2.7L). We've payed for a new motor and it's nickel and diming us to death with problems (door locks, slipping tranny, window breaking free from lift, headlights, A/C, etc). Now, the A/C has died for the third time and the alternator is dying.

Thanks for letting me vent, now two questions:

1. Last year, the mechanic said the compressor and refridgerant was okay, and that a relay was loose in the A/C system. The only relay I know of is in the electrical block in the engine compartment. Is there another somewhere in line or in the cockpit? I do remember, last year when we had problems, the clutch would kick in but still no A/C. This is the identical problem.

2. How hard is installing an alternator in this car? Any tips?

Oh, and what engineering school flunky designed the battery mount in this car? What a MORON!

Thanks in advance!

Do you here your blower motor running?

Sorry about not being more specific. Yep, the blower works fine, it blows that hot air very well!

Bought the alternator and looked under the bonnet. Guess I won't be replacing it. JEEZ that thing is in there. Figure my mechanic can do it in an hour or so. The aggrevation factor is worth the $80. I'll have him look at the A/C as well.

Hey, I've got a 98 Intrepid and my AC wasn't working either. The blower was working fine, but it was all hot air. I was told that it was the coil and that it'd cost $1200 CDN to fix it.

And about the batery mount .. I agree ... damn Dodge Engineers! :o)

Well, total for alternator replacement?

$370.00

The mechanic was using several words I didn't understand, but were obviously curses to Daimler/Chrysler's engineering staff. He had to take a good deal of the front end off of the car, including most of the radiator assembly.

NEVER AGAIN!
