F*&(^ing TPS!!!

Here is the story,
While helping a friend put back his motor in his 89 Civic SI, I pushed the motor to hard and it hit the Throttle Position Sensor on his MPFI and SMASHED it, I though NP, just buy a new one, but this one it looks like it was riveted to the Throttle Body.

Anyway no one sells a replacement sensor I went everywhere, the dealer wanted blood for a new TB, and there where no SI's at the local wreck yard...


My question, what other TB's from cars other then SI will work? Would a 89 Acura TB work? (there was one to the wreck yard) Maybe an Accord or newer Civic?

HELP PLEASE!! I'm getting ready to order a SI MPFI for me and I don't want to give up my TB to replace his..

cut slots in the "rivits" and they thread out like screws, buy a new one off ebay.

I'm not a big fan of replacing the TPS itself - it was factory set and while some people will disagree, I have my doubts that an average mechanic will be able to set it properly using the multimeter method as you usually get divergence while tightening the new bolts. These things were factory sealed for a reason.

I'd keep hunting for a replacement TB, ring around and see if you can get one shipped. It wasn't hard for me to get a replacement TB for my SiR and that's infinitely harder than finding one for a car that was native to the country.

So it has to be a 88 - 91 Throttle Body from a Civic with MPFI?

I can't use anything else? You wanna know the part that I hate I can't even find a rebuilt one from our local parts stores like Napa, and Auto Value or Checkers... Damm....

What about after market products? I could give him mine and buy a Performance TB...

I wonder if they even make those....

just get one off of any other car and put it on yourself. its very easy to check voltage with a multimeter.

all honda TPS are the same, except for 88-91 DPI system, which turn backwards.

If you can find an integra throttle body, just take the TPS off of it. look in a service manual for the correct voltage reading at closed and WOT.

it is not hard to set. just tighten them half way and check again, then tighten all the way.

Also, sensor drift (from heat change) will have more of an effect than a slight misalignment by a mechanic.

any TPS off civics 92+ will work, I replaced my TPS and got one off of a 96 DX TB. Its easy to set it to OEM specs, just get a digital volt meter and turn it till it reads correct voltage.

did you get this fixed and what worked i have an 88' crx si and cant find the part dealer wants $470. all for part of the TB i am willing to get just the TPS if someone knows what will work and/or where one is.

ANY honda/acura TPS sensor in a MPFI car will work!!

you can use an integra throttle body cause i used one when i converted my car to MPFI but the only thing is that you would have to take off one stud from the intake manifold....you would have to vise grip the top right corner stud off and the integra throttle body will fit...you friend will be happy with the integra throttle body because its bigger and you can feel the difference....and i think the stock integra bore is 63mm but i may be wrong but its way bigger that the si throttle body...

gots a 92 intake manifold w/ a 91 tb,might work vise versa.
