I was just wondering if anyone could answer this, I've wanted a 98-99 eclipse for a loooong time and I've been looking to buy one b/c I go to school in Boston and I need a car @ school... so my question is, why is that 99% of them either have a) a new engine b) 100,000+ miles (on a 99?!?!) or c) need a new engine b/c the engine in it doesnt work... is it just b/c people drive them a lot since they are sporty and whatever? I just find it crazy that EVERYONE I've looked at has a new engine or needs one.. even on the car dealership lots! it makes me very hesitant to buy one..

Am I outta the loop? is there something I should know about these cars?

Well a lot of people use them as daily drivers.. a 99 with 100,000 miles is a bit much in my opinion, but there are plenty with under 100,000. Alot of people switch engines due to crankwalk but that should not be a problem anymore. Also new engine means the person that had the car abused the previous engine and had to get another and blamed it on the car as not being reliable. There are plenty of eclipses available for sale that do not need a new engine..

I got a 1997 Eclipse GS with 87,000 miles on it for $5,600. We had it checked out by a friend of ours who works for BMW and it all looked great.

buy one and you will see why they have lots of miles!!!! you almost get sad when you get out of the car they are sooo great, at least i feel that way! conversly when you drive the shit out of any car, you create wear and milage. do a broader search on autotrader.

I just saw a 98 gsx at the Spitzer in Sheffield Heights Ohio, 45,500 miles. $11,900 they were asking. If it's still there, and i really consider it, i might wanna go up and talk to them. I know i can get them to a high 9 grand before talking about trading in the spyder.

Good ones are everywhere, but the people who own them know they got a good one, and will charge you a pretty penny, or keep it.
