The best oil is 5W30 Mobil1 or AMSOIL. Other pure synthetic motor oils are probably equivalent.

Just a note.
It makes no sense using good oil like Mobil 1 or AMSOIL, if you are using Fram filters or Penzoil filters (Fram makes Penzoil filters so they are the same thing). Fram is like, just about the worst filters money could buy (my opinion, according to my studies). At the very least use AC Delco or Purolator. Wix is also very good....some Napa filters are made by Wix. Mobil 1 filters are amongst the best, but they cost around $12. That's worth it to me. Only the Fram Tough Gaurd is so so, but I still wouldn't buy it. Do not confuse this with the Fram Double Gaurd. The Double Gaurd is just like the regular Extra Gaurd but I think it has Teflon in it (Teflon is not good for your engine). Better idea, just boycott Fram all together, maybe they will make better filters like the in the good old days.
If you use good synthetic oil like Mobil 1, you need a filter that could last just as long as the oil itself. I once heard that Mobil 1 can easily last 10,000 miles before it breaks down. I use Mobil 1 oil and filters and I change my oil between 5,000 and 7,000 miles, oil still looks descent, not broken down or burnt. My '88 4Runner has been using Mobil 1 almost since she was brand new, engines runs good and smooth, better than many others I've seen. I don't baby the truck, but I do take good care of her. She has been through Baja many times.

Here is a site I found if you're looking for some good comparisons between the
top synthetic oils like Mobil1, Valvoline, Amsoil and others.

Since this site is run by an AMSOIL dealer, the bias of the authors and thus of the comparisons is obvious. Take any results that promote AMSOIL products with a grain of salt.
