You would be better off buying a new truck. The front suspension is completely different, which most likely would mean a frame swap. Then you would have to swap all the electronics and computers from a 4x4 into your truck, not to mention the transfer case and transmission mods.
It's just not practical, especially if your state has any form of emissions testing and or inspection.

Almost anything is possible as long as you have the time and money. It sounds like you might have a lot of both if you're seriously thinking of doing this.
Buy a new truck.

thanks, what would be the most recommended way in your opinions to give the vehicle enough torque and horsepower to be able to do some lighter off road work with some ease. i really want to be able to do alittle more driving on dirt roads and my grandparents own a home in a remote part of mexico which requires minor off roading but nothing serious.
thanks for your help guys.

I drove on a lot of dirt roads and some pretty deep sand in a 2wd '64 Chevy pickup when I was a kid and never got stuck. Driving offroad in 2wd definitely takes practice and a little luck doesn't hurt either. Maybe you could get yourself a winch to mount on your truck. Otherwise, get a 4x4. Just remember, it's not hard to get yourself stuck no matter what your driving!
