This is my friend car problem on his 240sx not mine. So im asking for him. sometime when he drive the car. he hold the cutch and move the shifter to reverse. the shifter doesn't go in reverse gear, it won't let him it like locks it up, and then he have to shake the shift in natural and then it will go into reverse gear. It happens to first gear too. Anyone know why??

every manual car i have driven has done that unless the shift linkage or clutch is really loose. i think maybe cuz the reverse gear is so much different than the others, that it has to turn just a little bit, so maybe push in the clutch, let off all the brakes, let the car roll just a tiny bit, and then try reverse. its just misalignment, nothing you can really fix

i get that problem often...pump the clutch in a few times...sometimes putting it into first gear and dumping the clutch jus a lil will let u put it back into reverse...its pretty common...my bro had it on his 2002 honda civic...i wouldn't worry about it.

Reverse has a gate that comes blocks the gear so you don't accidently shift from 5th to reverse on the freeway. If the gate is blocking you from reverse, move the shifter back into FIRST gear, that will open the gate. First gear has a similar feature, this is to prevent your engine from exploding. If the car is stopped you should not have a problem getting into first gear, but it is still common to have reverse locked untill you down shift.
