ITR intake manifold

does anyone know is an ITR / CTR intake manifold is any better or worse than an aftermarket intake manifold like rev hard or edelbrock? what about a ported ITR mani.

the edelbrock ones are good, but I couldnt tell you if its particularly any better than any other kind. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

i would say the edelbrock is the best, but i would also think it would depend on yoru set up, like how much hp do you really plan to run, is this all motor or boosted, is it street driven or drag only, that would help alittle

I would say for the price that you can pick up a used ITR intake manifold, its better value for your dollar than a new aftermarket one.. Honda made a pretty good IM for those cars.

well its daily driven, i dont know if im gonig to get it turboed..its all a money thing. so something that can be N/A or turbo and wont really matter.

Im not a big fan of OEM parts. Sure, honda tuned the Type R engines to have more power than your average b16/b18, but they sure werent designed to be race engines. Aftermarket manifolds like the victorX and such were designed for maximum power in mind. DRag engines making 400hp etc. The same goes for the type r cams that people think are so good. OEM is OEM and aftermarket is aftermarket. Nothing pisses me off worse than when someone says to get "type r cams for NA build up".

If you want a mild powerboost , then go with OEM parts. If you want real power, then aftermarket is the only way to go.

aftermarket it is..thats basically what i suspected. i mean why would you go for a little more hp when you can get twice that. i was just asking because i saw a ported ITR intake manifold for like 60 dollars on ebay and i was wondering if it would be as good as aftermarket for a fraction of the cost.

To an extent I agree with what you're saying, but kinda not. Sure of course the aftermarket IM is going to do better on a 400hp turbo motor, and the Toda Cs are going to be better on your 300hp NA monster but most of us don't have 3 or 400HP and probably never will.

It pisses you off when people get Type-R cams for an NA build up? I don't see how.. They're good for close to 15hp or so if you have bolt-ons and you can pick them up used for like $400cdn ($300ish american).. Where else are you going to get 10-15hp for $500? To me, that seems like a pretty good value for the dollar. You could spend $1000 on a set of Todas and get maybe 20hp. You see what I'm saying? If you're not doing an insane build, used OE Type-R parts will actually build you quite a nice motor for your dollar.

As far as aftermarket IMs go, I see the Skunk2 one going for $400 or so and ITRs selling for $250 used. (these prices are cdn. and can vary depending on where you live, but this just demonstrates the price variation) And if you compare the two, you'd find that they're VERY similar design. Its not like the Skunk manifold is going to make 40% more HP than the ITR peice, maybe like 15% or so.

Honda made some VERY well designed parts for extracting HP from their engines as you can see with a lot of guys building fast motors on all Honda parts. I think that unless you're doing a 300+HP build, save some money and find used Honda parts, and spend the extra dough where its nessicary like a good Header, pistons, and a bigger block. ;)
