I have a 93 F150 falling apart. runs like S**t. Ford built a excellent reputation for a one time excellent truck. I don`t know about the 97 and up Ford. On mine (with only 64000 original miles) I replaced the rear spring shackles (riveted to the frame) rusted out. Replaced airconditioning compressor. Replaced a cracked exhaust manifold. Ignition lock cylender, engine oil pan rusted out, front bumper rusted through. radiator support rusted out.

The body is in excellent shape. I have done brakes and the things I expect to wear out. Some of the things that I mentioned above I don`t agree with. Ford tough is nothing to brag about. Anyone else discusted
with their truck? I always liked Ford before but the 88 chevy I had (with 189000 miles on it) was tighter better built and didn`t nickle dime like this truck has. I got rid of my Chevy was getting leary of it due to the high mileage. I like the looks and interior of the Ford better but honest to god underneath the Chev was better built. I`m not trying to start a Ford vs Chevy thing. My next truck may be a Dodge. I just can`t believe the stuff that has gone wrong with my Ford. now that its over 10 years old its a little easier to take. :banghead:

Theres always going to be problems with cars or trucks no matter what vehicle you get. I've been happy with my 89 F150, its at around 370000 kilometres and not much has had to be changed, just the usual stuff like tyres that wear out and the general maintenance of the vehicle. I've been happy as its been worked hard over the years and its kept on going. I guess theres going to be the same with Dodge or any other car manufacturer whee there is going to be happy customers and not so happy customers. Hope you stick with the Ford.

I have had good luck with ford. I think ford has kept a great reputation. Now some vehicals are bad from any manufacturer. Now i choose my truck because of the design, for instance, the chevy vortec engines, they are a top-end engine, there is no power on low end like the good ol 351 or even the triton series motors. Now dodge on the otherhand is the only company which can take a great 360 and ruin it with fuel injection, and have transmission problems for 8 straight years before they do something about it. Now ford had problems with the 03 6.0 diesel, but look at the 5.7 6.2 6.5 diesels and the gen 1 duramax's, they have low end crankproblems. All vehicals have problems, but i like the design ideas and the low end torque of a ford.

I like the looks and interior . Ford makes good engines. I think its the electronics that are the problem with mine. As for corrosion oil pans maybe, the rear leaf spring shackles that hold the vehicle up and are riveted to the frame should last the life of the vehicle. I been told this is a common problem. I replaced them they are just made of stamped sheet metal. I know of a 93 F250 at work that is on its third oil pan. I guess I could be having major problems like transmission trouble.

depends what you do with it.

My dad's 83 ram 1500 still runs just fine, although it has had significant work done and looks like a rustbucket (the way an old truck should!)

But he's never towed or hauled too much (more of a moving truck)

i know that trucks are meant to be beasts or burden, but there's no denying that doing such shortens their lives.

Did you buy the truck new? It sounds like the thing went into salt water.

I had some similar problems with my 93 F150. Was it a 5.8 liter? I replace my key cylinder also and the driver side exhaust manifold (it was cracked). Was your manifold on the driver side. Just curious!
