I feel stupid asking this but what the heck.
I have a 97 RAM 1500 4x4 with the 5.2L auto.
I want to replace the cap/rotor/wires but have no idea how to get at them??
I know when I put in the K&N air filter that the distributor is back there like on a Chevy but it is buried??????????
I was lucky to be able to follow the wire back there much less figure out how to get a screwdriver in to take the cap off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
(PS: this must be why the dealer wants $300)

Take the air cleaner off and that's the best you can do. Either that, pull the motor, or let the dealer have 300 bucks. It's up to you.

They built it this way so you have to take it in to have it done. It gets rid of people working on their own vehicles. If you could do that, things would be too convenient for everyone and then the mechanics couldn't make any money. Can't have that!

You can take off the intake manifold if you really want. Otherwise it is a pain in the ass but it can be done. You need stubby screwdrivers. Go from there. And make sure that you mark the wires and position of dist and rotor so that all is redone correctly.
