CV Boot

I have a 1997 Civic EX, the passenger side CV boot is torn, however it is not making any noise yet. It happend within the past 3,000 miles. The car has 113,000 miles on it, and most of them are city miles. Should I replace the boot or just replace the whole axle? How involved is it to replace the CV boot or whole axle? I am very good with cars, just have never messed around with suspension related parts very much. Thank you in advance.

just replace the entire axle. You can get one from the junkyard for about $50-75 and a remanufactured one from an auto store for around $75-100. It's not too hard replacing the axle.

yeah better to replace the axle since it's got that much miles on it already.

how involved is it? I know I have to take off the brakes/rotor and then take off the bolt that holds the wheel bearing in place, but what else will I have to do? I dont have to do anything with the spring do I? Is there anything that holds the axle into the transmission?

just have to take off rotors, caliper, hub nut and maybe the lower shock fork, if I remember correctly. I never had to pull the fork off cause I was able to turn the hub enough to just pull out the axle. Not very hard at all.
