On account of the possibility of messing up the computer, I just pulled a fuse. No more dome light, but no more damm beeping either. Maybe the third row from the bottom, near the middle.

Just from a few things I have seen, in my g/f's escort, she can shut off the car and take the key out and the door thing will chime. You have to make sure the ignition is in the off position...as it sometimes turns back a bit too far or isnt back far enough...the key is let out, but when the door is opened, it still chimes...
Just a thought...

I appreciate that info..looking for fuse, pulled out what i thought would but didn't?? Any fuse labels (i.e. doom light) located anywhere else?
Thanks,
DD

It's marked "ROOM" on my '91, the panel under the dash, driver side, top row, middle.
It may be different on your's, Ford and better ideas, sure. So open the door, and it beeps, right? Pull all the fuses one by one. Replace it and go to the next until you get the one which stops the beeping.

Your problem sounds like it's actually in the ignition switch. If you can get it out, there is a small piece of metal with a contact on it.... if you bend that back your problem should go away.
Not too sure, but you might be able to get to it on that car just by taking off the plastic cover around the steering column.

I reckon there's a problem in the switch too, thanks for your report, I'll check it out and let you know.

Yeah! I think you're right! I was so ticked one day I hit the ignition/key slot with a pair of channel locks and guess what.... no more chyme! Thanks for everyone's imput!

Well, the Haynes manual says to take the steering wheel off, the multi-connect switch, the upper and lower covers, etc. Lots of work, especially getting it back together neat. The "ON" wire went dead last month, and I wired around it. Any prognosis? Kragen wants a hunred bucks for a new one. I've seen where Escorts eat several ignition switches a year. Real problem is deeper.
