? engine for Odyssey

I have a 2000 Odyssey EX that is getting way, way up there in terms of mileage. My engine is still running strong, but periodically it gives me notice that it is an old engine.

So, when it goes, sooner or later, I intend to replace it. I understand, perhaps incorrectly, that it has a 6 Cylinder J35A engine.

Straight Replacement?
Buy from whom?
What is the Price?
Alternative engines?
When it dies, bury it where it sits?
Sell it quick before it dies and let someone else worry about it?

Suggestions please......

well if it still runs strong why not find out what is causing the intermittent problem, instead of spending a few thousand to replace it.

The van will be over 300,000 miles very shortly. It is time to consider a new engine. It isn't the cost, it is getting the right one.....

well im sure you dont do to much drag racing with your minivan so id suggest just getting another v6 put in it. call your local junkyards and see what they have available to you.

If you're comfortable working on cars, pull the motor and tear it down. If the walls still look clean, your local auto parts store will have all the bearings, gaskets, seals, and rings you need to basically rebuild the motor. Give it a light hone, install new rings, and go for it. If the walls are scarred or if there is any slack with the pistons honda sells new OEM oversize pistons for most motors, they probably have some for your motor that you can pick up for a couple hundred.

My wife has already made me swear not to ever do any plumbing or painting in the house and I am only allowed to do electrical work if I have a note from John the electrician. I seriously doubt she will want me working on the car to this extent. When time comes, I will simply take it to X and have them put in a new engine. Since I average over 80,000 miles a year in this vehicle (and it isn't my primary car any longer), finding a junk yard replacement isn't the way. Guess I will just let the local Honda dealership put in a new one.
