Those are nice cars.

Was the motor put in later because I thought they had a 305 or something in the late '70s?

The 327s I remember are going to give valve problems with unleaded fuel. Do you know if the valves were redone?

Do you know your compression ratio? If it is a high-compression engine then one of those low restriction K&N air filters would give an inexpensive boost. They even have a model that filters on the sides and at the top.

Yes, your right in '79 the biggest V8 avalible was the 305 (I have one). There was another avalible a 2' ' something??? Check out the Hot Rod June 1997 Long rod, high compression, low octane SBC. Thats what Im gona do to my monte (o do I love it---my monte that is).

Those Monte's were beautiful cars. They have got to have some of the best styling in history. Seems to me that the 2' ' something would be a 265 if my memory is still good. Going high compression will boost power and mileage at the same time. Good choice.
