noisy brakes

the front disc brakes on my car are becoming noisy. it has 6,000 miles on it with all original brake parts. i have done a few 100-0 stops so i suspect this is the problem. i also do alot of city driving. i think the discs may be slightly warped also. will getting them ground solve the problem? also, should i get new pads? what kind? about how much does it cost for grinding and new pads?

6000 mile is not much at all, but I guess if you break a lot and hard then....My break will get loud at times. What i do is take out the pads and clean it with break cleaners and it goes away. Clean the rotors also. I'm guess some sort of dust particles got stuck between the pads and disc so.

Pads shouldn't be that expensive. Mine was like $20 for the front. Grinding it I heard is like $75 or more each side.

Unless you have a pulsation when stepping on the brakes, your rotors are not warped. For some strange unknown reason, brake shops continue to over-torque lug nuts and warp brake disc rotors, expecially on foreign made vehicles which are sensitve to torque. I would go as far as to say that there are too many idiots mounting tires and using impact wrenches on lug nuts! Even after telling the shop to NOT tighten the lug nuts with the impact wrench, they still do it! :banghead:

You can stop by a car wash and spray clean the dust out of the rotors and calipers. If the problem is particularly severe, you can apply a sound deadener to the back of the pads to absorb the high frequency vibrations. Any parts house sells the deadener which comes in single application squeeze packs...about $2.
