Rear wing question

Is there really a point in having a rear spoiler on a front wheel drive car? Why would you want downforce on the non-functioning wheels?

hehe it means nothing to me... I was wondering if it helped that much or not. I don't know if I want one or not yet

Ever driven a car as light as a civic at 130+ mph? The back end gets very light... as well as the front end, helps plant the tires on the ground and improves the handling aspect. Of couse I'm talking about moderatly sized fuctional wings.... not those park benches that give imports a bad name.

I would guess that it is mainly for looks. I like spoilers as long as they are not BIG nor aluminum.

The fastest I have ever personally drivin is 140 in a 1991 Infiniti Q45 beating a SVT Cobra on the freeway. No spoiler on that thing, but its a really heavy car.
I don't know how often I will be traveling at 130+. I know I will.... but I don't know if the spoiler is a ncessecity or not...
Just wanted some input from you more experianced honda owners.

with my rex i've been about 105 and everything seemed fine... its probably because of the two 12's in the back that are weighing me down

i do think wings on our cars are mainly for looks, but I could tell after i put my bodykit and wing on, it does hold the road better when you are goin 100+.

:nutkick: Touchy touchy eh?
Anyway, aftermarket spoilers are completley cosmetic. Or at least most of them.. Any real spoiler that will actually help with downforce is going to cost a shitload of money, and its meant for cars that travel considerably faster than most Hondas EVER go, if they do its never for more than 10 minutes.
People think that people like Ground Designs and APC actually wind tunnel and test the stuff they sell because they care about how the car performs with the kit on!? OF course not, it wouldn't be nessicary as 90% of the people buying body kits and wings really don't give much of a crap about the functionality of them.

I have 9lb 14" rims and the only thing keeping them on the ground are the two tens in the back. I've been considering the thought of removing them or getting lighter truck boxes... I need some bass. :pimp:
No wing for me though.

the spoiler on my 86 CRX was functional, it was from a 85 CRX Si. I noticed much more stable handling on gravlel @ 70mph+

Just to clarify...
There is a difference between a wing and a spoiler.
The purpose of a wing is to create down-force for traction benefits at the rear wheels.
The purpose of a spoiler is to create a bit of turbulence in the air-flow behind the car "spoiling" the air so that it doesn't create a vacuum pocket or low pressure wave behind the car, which helps the car go faster with less effort.
For the most part, a wing on a FWD car is for looks alone, but there's bound to be at least a little bit of benefit from it (although, probably not enough to really notice).
