EGR What?

I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla 1.8 4-door automatic. The engine warning
light came on, and after retrieving the computer code, the mechanic
informed me that it was a faulty:

(a) EGR vacuum modulator

or

(b) EGR vacuum module

or

(c) EGR valve

or

(d) EGR vacuum module valve


I can't remember the exact name, as following a couple of visits to
parts stores, my notes have got mixed up. The mechanic also confirmed
that this part was faulty when I saw him suck or blow into it. The
part was round, metallic, and connected to a few pipes.

Question 1: Does anyone know what is the correct name for this part?

I've been told it costs around US $70.00 and apparently is only
available from a dealer.


Question 2: Is this the case, or can it also be mail-ordered from
somewhere?


Question 3: Is this part easily replaceable without any special tools?

When ever you get a faulty code and suspect it's just bullshit error, go and unplug the negative connector off your battery, wait 5 minutes, and plug it back in. This will reset your ECU, aka electronic control unti, that sends out the bullshit error.

Just the same way you shut your computer off when it doesn't want to respond to your keyboard or mouse.

If the check engine light doesn't go off after that then you know it's not a bullshit error code.

Ask the mechanic!
