sorry, no free ones.nothing is cheap either.you want power, your gonna pay.start with about $500 for a header and exhaust. then a better air intake system.more air/better flow= more power.$250 for computer perf chip.it only is money after that.

I have a 1999 Ranger, 2.5L, with a 5 speed manual. I have the following mods done:

1. Airbox mod with K&N air filter (more noise at WOT but the throttle is a bit more responsive)

2. Throttle cable mod

3.Chip installed (performance is definately noticeable but must use 93 octane fuel)

4. Different rear end ratio installed (installed myself, quicker off the line but top end suffers somewhat)

5. Hurst shifter (original stick shifter is a POS)

6. Mobil 1 oil and a Motorcraft filter. I never use anything else.

7. Redline synthetic D4 ATF fluid in the manual transmission. Yes, the manual transmission does take automatic transmission fluid. My transmission now does shift a little better.

8. Redline synthetic differential lube.

9. Installed NOS (installed this myself. Best HP gain for the money spent. You DO NOT get this power all of the time, only when the engine is sprayed at WOT and above 3000 RPM. I use it at the track only) You CAN NOT use the stock superchip with the nitrous. You must get the chip reprogrammed for nitrous use or do not use a chip for nitrous. You can also get a switched chip so you can run regular fuel, use the performance mods of the chip with 93+ octane or use the chip with nitrous.

The truck does run rather well for this type of engine.

Do not purchase a throttle body spacer, Tornado, hi-performance coils or wires. They are a complete waste of money and almost no gains (if any) for the money you spend although the parts do sound impressive when people list their "ride" mods.

Just remember, the faster you want to go, the more it is going to cost. HP is not cheap by no means.

the only trick that will make youre truck go fast is a 5.0 swap. even with all that crap listed above those guys might be pushin 170 hp. look on the bright side you can still achieve cool guy status by buying some rims, slamming it, and slapping on some APC stickers.

get a nice size air filter and some exhaut tubing, make your own ram air witht eh exhasut tubing but have it go all the way to the intake port, it gets good air flow then, then put a good flowing exhaut on, like, flowmaster, or jsut run straight pipes,
