SEMA Style Contest

This is the idea Matt (customminatures) and I have been tossing around and I just want to get some opinions about it to see if it would be a good turn out.

Introduction:

This is a contest much like SEMA. There will be multiple categories in which you can enter. There will be a winner from each category to compete in the finals for the AFMOTY. We still need to get an OK from Jay, Tonio, Chris, and PMan to call it the AFMOTY though.

Categories:

ICE (In Car Entertainment):
-The entry will have a heavily modified entertainment system.

Hot Rod Show Cars:
-The entry will be a customized hot rod of some sort.

-The age of the entry should be from 1899-1960

-The entry is to be a show car more than a race vehicle.

Import Show Cars:
-Then entry will be a customized import vehicle of some sort. Mostly a tuner.

-The entry is to be a show car more than a race vehicle.

Truck Show Car:
-The entry will be a customized truck of some sort.

-The entry is to be a show car more than a race vehicle.

Custom Motorcycle Show Bike:
-The entry can be any bike used primarily for show purposes

-The entry can be a chopper or a street bike. The preference is left to the modeler.

Engine:
-The entry will be any vehicle with a heavily customized engine.

-The entry should primarily be used as a race vehicle.

The contest is pretty open-ended to allow for maximum creativity. If you have any suggestions please let me know. As far as a deadline, it will be pretty far off to give inexperienced modelers a chance and to allow for maximum modification. We're looking at January 1, 2005 for the deadline right now as a though.

Any thing in blue has been changed or added since the thread was first constructed.

Hey, love what you re trying to do here on that new contest idea, but I think you re going to specific in your demands, I mean if you look at the average builder here, he or she ( we dont forget you ladies :naughty: ) is usually not that much into modifying for the sake of modifying, but maybe more modifying for the sake of realism (IE conversions), or not be into modifying at all.

What I would like to see here, instead is a massive (with entries close to the MOTY comp), with all sorts of modelers and all sorts of levels of modifying in it , lotsa entries and lotsa diversity, not a 4- entries contest.

Model Of The Year, the annual Big AF model comp where the best builds of the past year take it up against each other.

Lotsa super models take it up, with just one pics a model.

Consider it the Grandpa of model contest here on af, held once a year it december.

Even if it s a grandpa of contests, doesnt mean we have to kick it out, do we?

no i will build a custom one... and i have a car in the mind already...

i say come 1 come all! Build what you want and someone will judge it in the end! but who will judge, not the public though! has to be someone appointed!

I just changed a bunch of the guidelines. Matt and I have been discussing it. Now its more like a SEMA style contest.

I think making specific contests is good. But a wider contest would kill AFMOTY! I say: ok for a custom contest. Ok for a hot rod contest. Ok for a bike contest. But separately, and in a shorter period of time!...
However, the No Contest Contest is officially opened! You can build for your own pleasure and share it without thinking of competition... Each post counts as a vote. The winner will be AF.

Don't misunderstand me: I just wanted to express the same feeling as Tonioseven... There's nothing against anybody here!

The AFMOTY contest stands - unless PMan say's otherwise. I don't really think there's is need for another contest so soon after the last, particularly one which clashes with AFMOTY. If the general consensus is otherwise then so be it.

This forum is yours more than it is mine. And we dont want to upset PMan either. It already seems like not to many people are keen of the idea.
