MAXIMA questions

Well, I'm looking for a first car to get, and was interested in the 95-99 4th gen MAXIMA I think. I wanted a car which has the performance, not too flashy like an eclipse, etc. I have maybe around $5-7k to spend, also. Do you think the SE is the best choice to try and go for? Do the other models have a spoiler? Anyway, the Maxima is fairly powerful, isn't it? Standard v6, 190HP, etc.

Also, how is the Altima any different, would you guys suggest the Maxima over Altima? Sorry, but I'm a bit lost, hopefully you guys can fill me in. I wonder why Maxima's don't have a coupe model..

Thanks.
Dan

well i would go for an altima if you can swing a 3.5L, if not then a 4th gen is fine. if i was doing it over i would get a 96 bare bones .. lol but if you want some better looks and luxury just get a 97 SE but whatever you do , you got to get a 5 speed manual.

Five to seven grand? Get the maxima. I have a 96 and love it. I want a 2002 so bad, but just cant sell mine now. The power stock is excellent and ther is so much you can do to make it even better.

Get a 95-96 Max. The car is mature enough that there are plenty of tuner parts out and besides, Maxima sounds better than Altima. But like Ceasar said, get a 5spd.

Another dumb question.. How is the maxima really classified.. more towards the family sedan (camry, maybe accord), or does it lean towards sporty a little?

Camry or the accord is a has nothing on the max. I don't even know why some people call it family sedan, i think its because its cheaper on the insurance but other than that It the best invesment i ever mad. You will to but you have to get it in 5 Speed.

Well with the kinda money that you have to spend you shouldn't even consider an Altima because an Altima in the price range that you have won't get you much in the way of power per dollar as would a Maxima of any year between 96-99.

The cars that you can afford (Nissans anyway) for your dollar and what you're looking for in terms of power you'll have to go with a Max. The Altimas between the same year you are looking for only run up to 155hp whereas the Maximas between those years 96-99 run 160-190hp.

Go find yourself a used 96 because they are lighter than the other Maximas after that year and there are plenty of mods, as far as Rear Deck Spoilers, all of the SE models come standard with them the GXE and GLE's all offered them as options.

Plus on the SE's you usually get a better suspension and bigger/sportier wheels. And like Cease said get a 5spd (if you're looking for performance).

Good luck
