Propane?

How does this propane injection work and what are the pro's and con's of it?

propane injection is used almost solely on diesel trucks...lots of time for a replacemetn of turbos or to help along iwht turbos. THe propane works to burn the diesel slower so it gets better power and less fuel unburnt...Ive never heard of it used on gasoline cars...i dotn think it would even work. Its for mainly heavyduty towing and trucking.

it can be used on ANY diesel engine, not just big trucks...
www.bullydog.com should have answers for you

Propane injection works on gasoline engines as well, although there is not a tremendous benefit. Remember that propane is injected as a gas, and at a very low temperature. It's also very high octane, around 110 IIRC, and is very useful as fuel enrichment for a high boost car, especially when the limits of the stock injectors have been reached.

Another good use is intercooler spraying, you spray into the intake side of the cooler, and you get a better temperature drop that way, as well as enriching the mix.

So from all of that, can anyone guess why cops use propane injection?

to increase power? ;)

(where did you hear that cops use it?)

I was at a red light when a cruiser stopped beside me (it was a girl cop and was kinda hot so I was checkeing her out) Then I started to see this flammable sign on the car and it said "this car uses propane" or something along those lines. BTW I'm in Canada so it might be different in other areas?

ya im near toronto, i've seen some of the newer cop cars with those signs, i don't know why they would use propane though, cop cars are fast as it is!

Yea theres actually a dealership in my town that sells used cop cars but they remove a chip, which they sell seperately :screwy:.....wouldn't mind having me a cop car :naughty:

haha, ya i wouldnt mind the impala cop cars, they seem to be pretty nice rides

i saw an undercover impala cop car one day at night and i swear to god i thought it was a skyline (similar brake lights :uhoh: ) so i drove past him on the highway going 20 km/h faster than the limit and then i realized it was a cop when he tipped his hat at me! lol (didnt get a ticket thank god)

Actually theres an impala in my town that did a skyline conversion to it. Looks so nice, but it doesnt perform like a skyline :grinno:

PS that cop car couldnt do anything abuot you speeding by him other than give you a warning because he didnt have you taged with a radar gun nor were you in sight of his on dash camera. His word vs yours. Not worth th trouble for some cops but others are real pain!!!!

flylwsi

i doubt it's got a skyline conversion.
they've got stock tail light covers that look like skyline lights.

the car may have been powered by CNG, compressed natural gas, but i doubt it had propane injection.

That sticker means that the car has been converted to use propane as fuel, there are a lot of propane taxis here in Toronto.

Read that.

Trust me, the back and front looks like a skyline. I don't know about the sides which I couldnt tell were a skylines or not. As far as the cop car goes, I'm 100% sure it said propane, next time I see a cop, imma take a pic and ask em

Its not propane injected, its propane fuel.

Well it said propane so heck if I know. I will try and talk to a cop that isn't pulling me over so I can get all tha info possible. I don't have a good record with cops, rescently got arrested by the RCMP :icon16:

when i routed my nitrous i ran the nos lines from the hatch straight to the gas tank im assuming you would do the same with propane.

flylwsi
05-25-2004, 05:39 PM
amazing.
nitrous straight into the gas tank.
why?
for anyone that even considers what was said, don't do this, get an education, and don't come back to this board under 6 different names.
getting banned happens for a reason, and will continue to.

Just find a Crown Victoria taxi with the same sticker on the back of the car and talk to the taxi driver, much simpler, and no cops involved.

sidrone is right, in T.O, there are alot of buses, cabs, cruisers that run on propane as the main fuel.

LOL... i didn't follow that line of thought though. Just let him be IP banned already. Carrrnuttt, can Mods IP ban? You have a prime candidate here.

PS: Thanks Raz Kaz for starting this thread, as I asked this in another thread... who knew people used propane for anything more than BBQ's?

flylwsi

they can't IP ban, but i'm sure that Igor should make an exception.

:1: This here gentlemen is a fine example of why Mod's should be able to IP ban. But getting back on topic here, I read that propane fuel is much cleaner and bla bla bla but why would cops have it? Unless propane fuel gives them an edge for the types of engines??? Just pulling things outta ma ass here

flylwsi

or it's more efficient, better mileage.

i doubt it's a "performance upgrade" to go to propane

Raz_Kaz
05-26-2004, 10:20 AM
But would it give the same performance numbers? If not then I don't think patrol cruisers should have them. Maybe like parking enforcement or other crap

flylwsi
05-26-2004, 10:25 AM
well, you've been given info on how to find out..
like the taxi drivers...
ask away... ;)

Raz_Kaz
05-26-2004, 10:27 AM
LOL. No the taxis here, I'm almost certain, don't use it. And frankly it was the first time I saw a cop car with that sticker. I think I need to visit my local PD and ask some questions....Funny thing here is that everyone working there looks like Jim Carrey in Me, Myself And Irene :lol2:

Igovert500
05-26-2004, 12:26 PM
Yeah I think it was said before, but just to add, propane is a possible and often used upgrade in my car, it has higher octane, to when injected into the fuel/air mixture, it allows you to turn up the boost a few more psi without getting early detonation aka 'knock'
