hey guys, i really need your help, me n my friend, bought the exact same subwoofer, with the exact same box, but somehow, his hits harder, not just marginally louder, ALOT louder, he doesn't tune his frequncies or anything, but i think i might want to, on the alpine head unit i have, there are 2 ways to work with the bass, actually 4 ways but 2 of them are just +subwoofer and +bass, the other two that im really interested in, is...
#1 "setting the bass center frequency"
it gives 4 modes: 60hz/80hz/100hz/200hz
i have a real broad idea of what it does, can anyone help me with this
#2 "setting the bass band width"
it also gives 4 modes: width 1/2/3/4
it says width one is "narrow" and width 4 is wide
i think this controls where the bass boost comes in
also on my amp, i turned on the low pass filter, but it has a crossover
from 50-210hz, just by hearing the difference, 210hz is louder than 50hz
im guessing wherever i put it, is what the sub will be playing, and i set the "punch bass" on about 75%
with all this, can anyone explain what i asked in the #'s
and anyone know why my friends car hits harder than mines? im using a alpine cda-9807 and a fosgate 700x amp, im using 2 channels bridged into the sub running 350rms, my friend is using a pioneer head unit, i think 6500 or 6400 or something around there, and he also has a pioneer amp, that runs 400rms, and only have a low pass cutoff at 80hz, i drive a 96 accord sedan, and he drives a 89 prelude si, if that will make any difference, his car is alot smaller than my car, his trunk is also smaller, and his sub is faced toward the front, my sub is faced toward the back
or maybe its because Alpine stuff is more quality oriented (im assuming) that the bass just doesn't come out as loud, and i dont think an extra 50rms will make that much difference, so anyone think its the car? head unit? amp? thx in advance
o yea and does the wattage at 1/2/4 ohms effect the quality of sound that is produced?

What size of wires are you using for power/ground/sub? Also, what voltage are you running at?

What size of wires are you using for power/ground/sub? Also, what voltage are you running at?im using a 4 gauge wire, into a distribution block, and it splits into 4 8 awg wires, but im using 2 only, the amp itself takes 2 8awg with 60 amp fuses, and has 2 8awg ground, well of course im running between 12-14.4 volts probably 13.3
actually now i've made it alot louder, still not on the level of my friends, but its loud enough so that my trunk is rattling like crazy on some songs, now i get to turn the subwoofer volume down.. heh

it's almost assuredly the difference in the two cars

First off he is probably getting a smidge more power, but I can almost guarentee that the car is the cause of the difference.

lol thx, i was starting to think my subwoofer was defective or something, anyway his car is alot smaller than mines, but HEY im aiming for a hatch for my next car, it'll be easier on my wallet when it comes to bass
