2 marker renderings. Come see!

Here are two of my marker sketches, used Prisma markers, chalk pastels, and a bunch of finer pens. The first one is rather quick, just getting used to my marker/pastel combos. Still kinda iffy in some places. The second is a design I just thought up (a little too quickly). I should've made more of a roofline and A-pillar. Here the are:

the first one is invisible and the second one needs more yellow on that dancing banana

I have always wanted to try those invisble ink magic markers. They look like they work pretty well.

Hey guys!!! Here is yet another design, the promised MR sports car. I'm particularly proud of this one, I like how it came out. I've been told that the cockpit is a bit too bubbly, but hey, it was meant to be sort of like a Noble style car. Low, muscly. Sort of a cabin sitting on a chassis, in front of a motor. Hope you likes!

Design is not key in this, technique man! Technique!

Just jokin'. Good to see the publics opinion on where I am headin' design wise. Thanks!

I like the looseness. Keeps it airy and light nice job.

You got any with smoother color blends?

What's the surface?

I like the second one. Its really cool.

second one is more daring. first one is more of what someone would actually buy and be made. but what do i know.

nice renderings and designs. try a 3/4 perspective series of them.

i don't understand why the center of your rims is towards the middle.

looks awesome though.

because the car is projected to a vanishing point in the distance; it is not a direct, flat-on profile. do you see the slivers of the other wheels in the b/g under the car? he exaggerated the effect for effect. like a wide-angle lens view.

oh ok i see it now. so the middle of the car (the doors) are closer to us that the front and back bumper?

AnsisK your back!

Been hangin at cardesignnews.com?

Great concepts I think.

So prisma makes a colorless blender?

Heh, well. I don't post all that much at CDN, but I always check the forums, just to see where otherpeople are at. If I'm bored, I just look through the portfolios, get inspired and go draw for a couple hours...

What do you mean by a colourless blender? Confused...

The surface is a smallish sheet of Letraset marker paper. It's aaaalmost bleedproof, and it really lets you stack up the layers of gradient. It also really grabs the chalk.

For the wheels, they look so partially because of what bonz stated, but mostly because the wheels themselves are concave, so at even a standard perspective, you'd get that effect. But this sketch has that perspective bend, so that amplifies it. Some guys draw their's a loooot more exadurated. Half this stuff is new to me (over the past month or so), so I'm still learning the dos/don'ts of it all.

Thanks for all the input. If I come up with anything else, I'll let you all know!

how did you get that gradient in the rims. it goes from light gray to white...that looks good :)

yes. as ansisk points out (and i thought about on the highway today), the rims are dished, ie, concave. and the artist has achieved this effect. it would have been more discernable had he put in a crescent shadow in the upper portions of the wheels.

i am noticing, too, that a lot of conceptual drawings are slightly exaggerated, as are fashion drawings, for effect. it adds dynamism to the overall presentation.

i am stoked now about embarking upon conceptual renderings. this is fun -a new avenue for me personally. :smokin:

I REALLY like those, especially the second. WTG.

The gradient on both sets of wheels is just using Prisma warm grey markers, 10% through 30%. I just did almost the whole wheel 10%, the started from the top again, but this time stopping earlier, going down again, stopping earlier again and again. Then do the same, touch up spots, with 20% and 30%. This paper is excellent for this kind of stacking. It really holds the layers, and minimizes bleeding.

As for designing, yeh it is really fun. I have a lot more passion doing this than I did with standard photo based drawing. Here I am not restricted in what I want to draw, and I can think of anything I want and put it down on paper. Remember, before going into deep thoughts about colours or designs, focus first on drawing a car using a pair of vanishing points. Concentrate on setting up the drawing beforehand, where the axles will be etc. Then you have to focus on light sources, reflections, then you move onto fancy effects (unrealistic proportions) that really add excitement to the drawing. That will all bring you into the world of colours and designing. Good luck!

I have a couple hours of homework tonight, but I might try some more drawing.

I thought GTMike mentioned it, anyway.

Cool renderings I like the artistic feel of them.
