Compressor locking up

My husband has a 93 Chevrolet extended cab that we just bought a month ago. The air conditioner worked when we picked it up and about a week later, he turned the A/C on and the belt came off. We were told that the compressor is probably locking up. Is there an easy fix to this or does it have to be replaced? Thanks in advance..

the compresso has to be replaced or you learn to live without a/c , the accumilator should also be replaced and the rest of the sytem flushed out to remove any metal particles that may have come from the compressor.

Make sure you really, really, really clean the system good, and buy a NEW compressor, stay away from remelts I mean rebuilts.....
