i have a 2000 alero gls and my drivers side automatic lock quit working. when you lock the car by remote or if you start the car and put it into drive it will lock but when you shut it off, the passenger side wil unlock but the drivers side will not. as well when you use the remote to unlock it the passenger side will unlock but not the drivers.what could be the problem.
the oter problem is my power trunk will not work from either the remote of the button on the door. the relay will click but that is it. anyone have any ideas what it could be. it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Half breed :banghead:

the door sounds like you have a short in the wiring somewhere

Try replacing the driver's side master door lock switch. Remove the
lock by prying up the rear part of the bezel. It should come right out.
Then remove the rocker switch from the bezel. Order at any GM
dealer for about $15.

Also check the wires in the rubber boot in the door jam. If this is a high millage car the wires in there tend to crack break and corrode.

The fix using a new replacement master switch lasted for about a day.
The switch is still working but the car has reverted to unlocking itself
and it usually gives me a toot on the horn when starting.
I will check the wiring in the rubber boot on the door as kindly suggested

Anyone know if you have to remove the door panel to do this ?
