Engine overheats

What would be the problem if the engine overheats no matter what? At idle or on the road. The symptoms leading up to this is that the temp would get so high and then come back down. It would never get into the red. Now it will peg if I let it. The upper radiator hose gets hot, so the thermostat is opening. This also indicates that the coolant is flowing through the complete circuit, right? I use the orange antifreeze. There appears to be a lot of rust colored gunk. Is it a blockage somewhere, or what?

you might check the fan on the radiator to see if it is working, if not check the fan relay,

{You might want to check your themostat or water pump.}
This happen to me... My 95 trans sport was running high on the temp
side around 220 and the fan was coming on alot. I just got the van
a few months ago and thought this was normal as long as the fan came
on and the temp didn't redline I wasn't too concern. Well, one morning
I drove the car about a mile and the temp went up to 220 and the fan
was coming on and I knew something was wrong. Later that day my
wife took the car and when she came back out to start the car she
heard a noise. She got out and open the hood to see the serpertine
belt off. What happen, was the pulley for the water pump came off !!!
I replace the water pump and put the pulley back on. Notice the temp
came down. I consider myself luckly.. no damage to the engine..

I had a problem of over heating , and the local garage told me to clean the two radiators with water under pressure, and I found a lot of dust .
You have to separate the radiators , it is not usefull to take off the hoses.
After it was ok .
good luck
