I just bought a 79 Monte Carlo....i know its a little past the muscle car era, but im kinda low on cash, and right when i saw it, i fell in love with it...It kinda looks a little old though...you know, it needs a paint job, and im getting ready to redo the interior...keeping the origional bench seats, theres no way im getting buckets in this baby :nono: . Anyway, the question i have for you is....the engine, a 327, is looking a little dull :disappoin ...i was wondering if i could scrub down the engine with water and soap. I want to scrub it so it looks real clean. Im assuming i need to take off the air filter? anything else that needs to be removed before giving my engine a bath? do i have to worry about messing anything up? It is a stock 327, it has no goodies yet :evillol: If you need me to, i have pics of the engine, i could try to figure out how to post them here!! thanks for the help

Yeah, while your at it run the hose down the carb to clean it out!
Just kidding!!! Don't use soap- try a engine clean solution from your local auto parts store and cover the carb, coil, distributor with plastic before you even get close with a hose.
Leave the hood open where the sun can get to it to dry it out good. Or take it to a good hand car wash and use their engine/tire cleaning spray on the motor while it's running but stay away from the 3 items I listed above - if you're lucky it won't die or stall!
First thing to fix it up is wheels/tires and then the sound/exhaust - the rest can come later!
