I was looking at a CAI for my 2001 Accord V6 from like Injen or AEM. Where does the air filter actually go ? If it goes outside the engine bay, what is the likelihood of getting water in it. Are these thing really worth the trouble and money.

The filter routes down behind your bumper and if you go through some deep puddles, almost totally submerging the filter, then water will get sucked into the engine and will most likely hydrolock. Normal driving through some heavy rain or whatever won't do a single thing.

You could buy an air bypass valve which goes inline with the piping. The flaps will open if the filter gets submerged, sucking air from them instead of the water.

CAI are definatly worth the money. more torque for city driving. won't get water in engine unless you plan on driving through a river or major flood.

yeah don't bother with the bypass unless you're going to be trying to make your car float... you'd prettymuch need to submerge the filter before you had to worry about hydrolock.. also, the bypass negates any hp and tq gained..
i just picked up an aem sri.. the sound is aaaamaaazing at wot... i'd go with the aem, not as expesive and an overall better product imo

well, looks like I will be getting an AEM CAI as soon as I can afford it

haha it just rained really hard here and my friend was telling me how he hydolocked his car after going through a pretty deep puddle in his lowered integra. the man had to get out and push the thing outa the puddle in his bare feet.

hahaha that's funny... why was he driving through deep puddles in the first place?

actually i think getting a little water in ur engine is kinda good. Just not to the point of hydrolock. I say that b/c a ghetto way to clean out carbon deposites in ur engine is to spray water in the throttle body while engine running. That way it will raise the compression a little bit and burn off the carbon deposites. So actually driving through heavy rain with a CAI might be kinda good.
