no fuel pressure

Hi guys I have a problem. The other day I saw some smoke coming from under the hood and I noticed that it was a relay melted. The fuel pump relay I believe. Now there is no fuel pressure. I changed the relay that was melted and the car started. I backed out across the street and the car cut off and hasn't started since. Then I went and got another relay and nothing happened after that. no start. Any ideas anyone? The car is an 86 grand marquis thanks.

It'll turn over, right? Happened on a hot day running all the AC and stuff? That sounds like what happened with my 86. Where the positive battery cable goes to the firewall on the right side, there's a post where all the electrical connections are made. In that bundle of wires that leaves there, there are some fusible links -wire designed to burn up before shorting something else out - that may need to be replaced. I bought some of the proper gage wire and fixed it in about 1/2 hour. Hopefully this helps, and whatever failed is right there where you can see it......

I fixed the problem on my uncles Grand Marquis. It turned out to be the wires that was leading to the fuel tank from the inertia switch in the trunk. The wires were shorted out by the rear shock. If you can believe that. The shock busted through the bottom of the trunk and the top stud grounded the wires against the back of the rear seats (on the metal frame of the rear seats in the trunk. Just under where the rear speakers would be mounted.
Anyway the relays checked out to be okay. As well as the fusible links. I appreciate your reply.
