530i Auto Shudder

Quick question regarding a 94 530i.
When driving in 'D' in 'Auto' mode or 'D' in 'Manual' I am gettting a shuddering feeling at all speeds when under light or heavy acceleration.
When in Auto mode it occurs when the auto has finished shifting into high gear and the convertor does its lock out/up deal, where the RPM drops about 200, but when you shift into 4th (sports mode) the shuddering disappears. The transmission shifts fine through all gears it just has developed this shudder. When in Manual mode all gears are smooth until you get it into the 'D' then the shudder appears at all road speeds 40MPH up to 90+ with light to heavy acceleration.
Sign of a bad tranny or convetor?? Has also developed a miss at idle, not sure if this is related . This is a Alusil block with 60K on it and 125K on the transmission. ... Ideas???
