What are some mods I can do to a stock SOHC 88 Civic hatch motor that will gain me some speed and hp without spending too much. I need some motor work to hold me over until I can get a nice swap.

ive probbly posted this in at least 5 forums in the last 2 weeks, but i say it again 1 more time. start with intake and exhaust. then go for headers. after that it is up to you, either suspension, cams, or maybe start doin internal work on the engine.

Well I am lookin a little more in depth then just intake n exhaust. I was gona go for like hi flow cat back n headers down the line. When I get down with my surgery. Like maybe other things you can point out for me, I guess internal work. Also do they make a Vtec kit for my year?

Intake, homemade hyperground wires, headers, exhaust.

if you really wanted to get serious, you could swap in a b series engine.. that'll make your hatch flyyyy go with the b18c1 or b16a for the vtec.. b18c1 is a better motor but it comes with a bit bigger pricetag.. if you want to go down the swapping route that is

First off, what model hatch do you have? std, dx, si?
If you have an std or dx you should look into getting Multi Point Fuel Injection "MPFI" as of right now you would have a "DPFI" system which does not respond well to modification's.
If you have an si, which is already equiped with MPFI, I would recommend getting basic bolt on's Intake, Header and Exhaust. Then you could look into getting a cam and cam gear and/or a high flow cat.
If you are saving for a swap I would not worry about vtec right now if I were you but if it will be a while before you get a swap you could put a sohc vtec head on your block which is called a mini-me setup. But not really worth the money or trouble to build if your just looking for alittle performance before a swap.

A b16 is around 1800-2300 that is the b16a1.
Your Vtec isnt the performance vtec, so it doesent matter where it kicks in. The real vtec is the DOHC VTEC.
Bolt ons are not gonna get you sufficient power for you to notice a real difference. Turbo, Supercharger, Nitrous Oxide Kit, Engine Swap is the way to go if you wanna be fast.

i heard that when you turbocharged a non-turbo engine,it could decrease the life of the engine by 130000 kms...just make sure you upgrade your brakes as well when doing engine swap

easy mods? replace/clean all grounds, CAI (Ebay version) or how about some suspension mods? New bushings.
think little and you'll get big results.

when u do mods u might wanna start with intake first. Then for ur exhaust work ur way from the engine back. Like get a header first... then remove ur car and then cat-back exhaust. If u were to do the opposite it will probably defeat the purpose. Ur engine breathe as well if u still have ur stock header. getting a cat-back with just stock exhaust for everything else will just make ur car sound loud for no purpose.
